Questions & Answers

is it safe to install 6x6 pergola post on concrete using this

Answer

We can direct you to the allowable loads and complete information regarding this base (https://www.strongtie.com/onepiecepostcaps_postcaps/bc-bcs_productgroup_wcc/p/bc.bcs), but it would be up to the Designer/Engineer of Record to specify the appropriate connector for the specific application based on framing layout, demand loads, local building codes, etc. Thank you!

I'm looking to attach 2 half bases around a square vinyl post that is 6 1/2 inches wide. Would this be large enough?

No. This would be too small for a 6 1/2 inch post. But if your post is a vinyl sleeve with a wooden inner 6x6 post it could work if you install the wooden post first and sleeve the vinyl down over it.

I would qualify recommending this item... It is rather expensive, and after securing it with screws to a concrete floor is looked solid enough, but after installing the 6x6 columns, we notice that the columns sway rather easy, much more than I expected. Given time, I would have use different bracket to support the columns. And did I say that they are expensive...
