Questions & Answers

how deep should the 10"x10" cement pier be to accommodate a 6' or 7' fence?

Asked by: Burly
I am a general contractor and 40 year carpenter. As one stated these wet anchors are not designed for fence posts--a waste of resources. A well anchored fence post is secured in a hole 20 to 24" deep. One can have a ring of concrete at the bottom and again at top with soil in between. There is no need to fill entire hole with concrete. One can also tamp in rocks and soil at bottom and top and use no concrete.

I want to use two of these these to anchor two seperate posts that are about 11.5 feet apart on center that will be supporting a 12 foot 3X 2x8 beam that will be used to support four childrens swings; the beam to post connection will be made using 7 gauge Simpson StrongTie ECC4.62-5.50 . Is this going to be ridiculously strong or what?
Asked by: mikey
depends on who is going to use the swing

Are these rated for treated lumber

Asked by: Robert
Yes, I have used Home Depot's pressured treated 4 x 4 x 8' with great success. I dug my holes to a depth of 16" - 18", using about 60lb - 70lbs of redi-mix cement.
