A:  We cannot recommend either base mentioned for a free standing installation. Except for the MPBZ moment post base, post bases do not provide adequate resistance to prevent members from rotating about the base and are therefore not recommended for non-top-supported installations (such as fences or unbraced carports). The top of the post must be restrained from moving horizontally by some other means, e.g., by tying the roof into a supporting structure or by adding knee bracing between the posts and beams. Alternatively, see the MPBZ for a post base that provides moment resistance for columns or posts. Thank you!

A:  Yes . These are to be used with 4x6 timbers . They are also available in 6x6 , if you want larger posts . Very commonly used building pole barns , barns and garages . I use a 60lb bag of cement per base , they work perfectly .

A:  Yes . I usually use 6x6 posts for corners and 4x6 in the field . They work great, have used many times . you can set your posts so that they are not buried and will last much longer .
