The CB44HDG is the CB44 with the hot-dip galvanized finish, which provides a medium level of corrosion protection. The CB44 is not available in Z-MAX (which also provides a medium level of corrosion protection), but is available in stainless steel - CB44SS (stainless steel provides a high level of corrosion protection). Please see the Corrosion section of our website to determine the recommended finish based on your condition: https://www.strongtie.com/solutions/corrosion. Thank you!
While we do not have any restrictions against painting our products, we do not have any information/guidelines to provide regarding painting galvanized steel as this is not our area of expertise. You may wish to check further with a paint manufacturer or the American Galvanizers Association (www.galvanizeit.org) for information on painting galvanized steel. Thank you!
Yes, this can be used.
The steel used to manufacture the CB46 is hot-dipped prior to fabrication. This standard (G90) zinc-galvanized coating contains 0.90 oz. of zinc per square foot of surface area (total both sides) and provides a low level of corrosion protection. The CB46HDG is hot-dip galvanized after fabrication. The minimum average coating weight on the "HDG" products is 2.0 oz./ft2 (per ASTM A123 total both sides) and provides a medium level of corrosion protection. Please visit our website for information on our coatings, to determine what finish is recommended for your condition, and for complete corrosion information. Thank you!
This item uses 3/4 in. Diameter bolts.
The CB44HDG is not recommend for non-top supported installations. Non top-supported structures such as railings, unbraced carports, fences, arbors, etc. need to resist lateral loads such as wind, earthquake, climbing kids, people leaning, etc. at the top. Those lateral loads at the top of post translate to significant moment loads at the bottom. The E-Z Base may be an option (please see model FPBB44), but this is not a load rated product. It would be up to the Designer/Engineer of Record to evaluate for the specific fence application. Thank you!
This base does not provide a 1" standoff. For a 1" standoff, please see the CBS66 (bolted version) or CBSQ66 (screw version); both available with the HDG finish (add HDG to model number). Thank you!
We recommend setting the base first, then pouring and vibrating the concrete around it to prevent voids (air pockets) in the concrete.
