Questions & Answers

Can the part above ground be painted?

Answer This Question

While we do not have any restrictions against painting our products, we do not have any information/guidelines to provide regarding painting galvanized steel as this is not our area of expertise. You may wish to check further with a paint manufacturer or the American Galvanizers Association (www.galvanizeit.org) for information on painting galvanized steel. Thank you!

Latex house paint. Takes 2 coats, Wipe it down thoroughly with vinegar before painting, helps bond the paint. Be warned it will fade, maybe due to heat from sunlight, scratches easily, comes off somewhat easily.

Can this Column Base be used as anchor for post on a 14' pole barn? (6in x 6in Hot-Dip Galvanized)

I would think so, keeping in mind they hold a 6x6 post, just be sure your building plan has enough posts so that you end up with a building sturdy enough to handle what you want it to do plus the worst things mother nature will throw at it. I was impressed with the anchors, they are solidly made for sure. I like the peace of mind that I don't have to worry about my posts rotting since they eliminate the need to partially sink them in the ground.

What is the difference between CB 4 in. x 6 in. Galvanized Column Base and the Hot-Dip Galvanized Column Base? Both are 7 gauge steel and both are Galvanized. The hot dipped cost twice as much. I need it to support a gate fence post, and not sure if the extra cost is justified.

          Answer This Question

The steel used to manufacture the CB46 is hot-dipped prior to fabrication. This standard (G90) zinc-galvanized coating contains 0.90 oz. of zinc per square foot of surface area (total both sides) and provides a low level of corrosion protection. The CB46HDG is hot-dip galvanized after fabrication. The minimum average coating weight on the "HDG" products is 2.0 oz./ft2 (per ASTM A123 total both sides) and provides a medium level of corrosion protection. Please visit our website for information on our coatings, to determine what finish is recommended for your condition, and for complete corrosion information. Thank you!

How do I accomplish a 1" standoff with this base?
              ByNov 6, 2015
              1 Answer |
              Answer This Question

This base does not provide a 1" standoff. For a 1" standoff, please see the CBS66 (bolted version) or CBSQ66 (screw version); both available with the HDG finish (add HDG to model number). Thank you!

                Excellent heavy-duty product
These post bases are made from very heavy gauge steel and hot-dip galvanized. Once anchored in concrete they provide an exceptionally stable base for 6x6 pressure-treated posts (note: so-called 6x6 lumber has a true measurement of 5.5" x 5.5" +/-). These brackets are really massive, over 7 lbs each. They are much sturdier than the typical 12-gauge steel brackets They are anchored about 10" deep into the concrete, then attached to the upright post using two 5/8" x 8" HDG bolts. Once properly anchored, that post is not going anywhere! I would definitely recommend this product to a friend.

These post anchors exceeded my expectations. Heavy duty 7 gage steel will last longer than my lifetime. When installed properly , they should exceed any hurricane specifications. I can’t wait for my site to dry out from seasonal rain so I can install these brackets
