  • Column cap only (no straps) may be ordered for field-welding to pipe or other columns
  • Made from 7-gauge uncoated steel

    A:  Hello VicS, This is Colin from Simpson Strong-Tie. The CCOQ6-SDS2.5 Column Cap has a stirrup width of 5-1/2" for a 6x horizontal beam and comes with our 2-1/2" Strong Drive Screws but as you know without two straps below. These column caps are unfinished bare metal because these are intended to be field welded to a structural steel member such as a steel I-beam or an HSS column. The weld is to be specified by the designer in accordance with AWS standards.         I ordered four (4) of these column caps. I received in less than a week from Home Depot. I am an Architect and push all of our builders to utilize these on all projects for the additional structural benefit of having a longer "seat" for the beams to sit on. The thickness of the caps is substantial, deceiving from the online pictures. An added bonus is the CCOQ columns from Home Depot come with all of the Simpson SDS screws. These column caps make the typical lally-column plates with folding tabs seem obsolete, and I hope they do just that. I purchased the 2-ply LVL and 3-ply LVL variants. Both installed perfectly and arrived promptly. Was happy to see Home Depot supplying these.
