Product Overview

The CPTZ post base incorporates a knife plate with a standoff base. It achieves a clean, concealed look while providing a 1 in. standoff height above concrete. The CPTZ is installed with 1/2 in. diameter galvanized pins (supplied).
  • The 1 in. standoff height is code-required when supporting permanent structures that are exposed to weather or water splash, or in basements
  • The standoff reduces the potential for decay at post or column ends
  • The anchorage for the CPTZ can be either cast-in-place or retrofit with adhesive or mechanical anchors
  • Nominal post size: 4x4
  • Base: 12 ga.; knife plate: 10 ga.
  • ZMAX galvanization offers extra corrosion resistance for exterior and treated-wood applications
  • Install with 1/2 in. anchor bolts and supplied dowels

The CPT88Z can be used with a nominal 8x8 (7 1/2" x 7 1/2" actual) or rough 8x8 (true to 8" x 8" size). Thank you!

How wide is the knife plate?

Asked by KeganL June 12, 2020

Answer

The knife plate is 4 1/2" wide. More information would be needed to answer your question (i.e. what type of post, demand loads, etc.). Please contact our Engineering Support Department at 800-999-5099 for further assistance. Thank you!

Answer

The CPT66Z anchors to the concrete with 2 - 1/2" diameter anchors. It is up to the Designer to specify the anchor bolt type (i.e. cast-in-place, mechanical, adhesive), length and embedment. Thank you!

How does the black base connect to existing concrete?

Asked by Dan June 25, 2019

Answer

•The Designer must specify anchor bolt type, length and embedment, but the SET-3G Anchoring Adhesive would be an option for existing concrete. Please visit our website or catalog for further information. Thank you!

Can PL Premium Construction Adhesive be used to anchor this product to a concrete porch and steps?

I really like the idea of these post base because I did not want any hardware showing on the base of my newly installed 6 x 6 post leading to my front door. However; my contractor hated them & we gave up on trying to use these. it was diffident to get the 3 metal plugs to align perfectly.

Is this base appropriate for attaching a wooden handrail to a concrete porch and steps?

Asked by Zuni March 6, 2019
1
Answer

Post bases do not provide adequate resistance to prevent members from rotating about the base and therefore are not recommended for non-top-supported installations (such as fences, railings or unbraced carports). We do not have a base to recommend for railing applications to existing concrete. Thank you!

Are these strong enough to use as a wood to concrete railing post anchor? Or should I go with Simpson ez base ?

Asked by KSterm October 23, 2018
1
Answer

The CPTZ is not recommended for non-top-supported installations (such as fences, railings, unbraced carports). We do not have a load-rated base that we refer to for railing applications. Thank you!

Does it come with the anchor bolts?

Asked by Gabo October 23, 2017

Answer

This base in installed with galvanized pins, which are included, but the anchor bolts are not.

For a 20' x 10' structure, is there an optimum direction the fin should be positioned? In line along the 20' length or perpendicular...or does it matt

Asked by Pergolajack August 3, 2017

Answer

It would be up to the Designer/Engineer of Record to specify the orientation depending on the lateral load demands. (The F2 direction is rated higher than the F1 direction; please see our website or current catalog for details). Thank you!

Quality product. Suggest including installation tips for different mounting surfaces. My application was on concrete, leaving no room for error. After drilling first mounting hole, suggest using the knife plate as a guide to ensure second hole for concrete anchor is exactly where it needs to be to allow mounting.

Gives post a clean look, we installed trim around bottom yet and didnt have to dado boards to go around metal flanges like on old style bases. Great labor savings and would look great without trim.
