The ECC is designed to provide strong column-beam connections in end-of-beam applications in wood construction. The seat of the column cap provides an additional surface area of bearing that extends beyond the one side of the column. The ECC helps to distribute the load from the beam and provide support for the connection.

Hi Eric, this is Bekah from Simpson Strong-Tie. This is not the ECCQ666SDS2.5 which is an L connection column cap that would have beams coming in at a 90 degree corner on top of a post. This is the ECC66 which is the bolted column cap for 1 beam terminating at a post. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you.
Hi Juan, this is Bekah from Simpson Strong-Tie. The ECC44 post caps does not use screws; this partiuclar model uses 5/8" diameter bolts. When we are referring to bolts we are referring to structural quality through bolts equal to or better than ASTM Standard A307, Grade A. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Em2012, this is Ricardo from Simpson Strong-Tie. For beam widths of 3-1/8 up to 4-1/2", 5/8" diameter bolts are to to be used with the ECC style column cap as shown here on this product page: https://www.strongtie.com/boltedcolumncaps_columncaps/cc-ecc-eccu_productgroup_wcc/p/cc.ecc.eccu If you are looking to use screws, then you would be looking for a model number with a Q in it, such as an ECCQ. All of the CCQ and ECCQ style column caps require 1/4"x2-1/2" SDS screws (model number SDS25212). If we can be of further assistance, please call our technical service team at 800.999.5099.
Hello, this is McKenzie with Simpson Strong-Tie. Since this is a welded product, the base material is raw steel. The stock product is powder coated and considered a low corrosion resistance coating. We recommend HDG in high corrosive environments. If the powder coating or any flashing is chipped away where the raw steel comes in contact with moisture, corrosion will follow. We also offer some of our column caps in stainless steel for the highest corrosion protection.
It is not always easy to visualize such a connection. Would you have a sketch or a drawing that you can email to us? Please email it to me at glubarsky@strongtie.com My name is Genady Lubarsky and I am an engineer with Simpson Strong-Tie Canada
The ECC66 is sized for nominal 6x members (51/2" actual), or 5 1/4" engineered lumber. Please contact your local Home Depot store to special order other sizes. Thank you!
I am not sure if there is a typo here, but this cap cannot be used with a 2x2. If actually using a triple 2x10 over a 6x post, please see the ECC4.62-5.50 which has a 4 5/8" width for the beam and 5 1/2" width for the post. Thank you!
