Unfortunately it can only be purchased through on-line sales.

What kind of nails are used to install the hangers in cement block headers?

Answer

Attach the HU hangers to concrete or GFCMU walls using hex-head Titen 2 screws. Titen screws for GFCMU (1/4" x 2 3/4" — model TTN2-25234H) and for concrete (1/4" x 1 3/4" — model TTN2-25134H) are not provided with the hangers. The HU410 is a min/max hanger which means the fasteners in the round holes will produce the minimum capacity and fasteners in the round AND triangle holes will produce the maximum capacity. It is up to the Designer/Engineer of Record to specify if MIN or MAX is to be used. Thank you!

Can this be installed outside in New York weather? If not then please advise which mode of Simpson Strong Tie can be use

Answer

The HU shown here has the standard G90 galvanized finish which provides a low level of corrosion protection and would not be recommended for exterior applications. We offer hangers with a Z-MAX or HDG finish which provide a medium level of corrosion protection and are suitable for some applications of wet service. We also offer some hangers in stainless steel which provides a high level of corrosion protection. Please see the Corrosion section of our website for finish recommendations based on your conditions. Feel free to contact our Engineering Support Department with questions: 800/999-5099. Thank you!

The hanger allowable loads depend on the wood species they are being attached to. The loads can be found on our website/catalog (listed per hanger), though our connectors are not recommend for swing applications. Our products have not been evaluated with regards to the forces that a swing may put on them. Thank you!

The width of this hanger is 10 inches.

Is this hanger rated for treated lumber?

Asked by sparky July 5, 2018

Answer

This hanger has the standard G90 galvanized finish which provides a low level of corrosion protection. It can be used with some treated woods in dry, interior environments. The HU212 can also be special ordered with the HDG hot-dip galvanized finish which provides a medium level of corrosion protection. Please see the Corrosion section on our website/in our current catalog for finish recommendations based on the specific conditions. Thank you!

Are these hot dip galvi and suitable for treated wood?

Answers

These are unsuitable for pressure treated wood. Simpson markets hangers for treated wood under "ZMax." Check out Simpson's ZMax for 2X6's, and you'll notice in the details that it's okay for 2X6's and 2X8's.

How many nails are required per hanger?

Asked by Ross March 2, 2018
1
Answer

The HU88 is what we refer to has a MIN/MAX hanger. It requires a quantity of 10 - 16d common nails (0.162" diameter x 3 1/2" long) to the header and 4 - 16d common nails to the joist for the minimum capacity (fill round holes) or a quantity of 14 - 16d common nails to the header and 6 - 16d common nails to the joist for the maximum capacity (fill round and triangle holes). Please confirm with the Designer whether the application requires the minimum or maximum capacity. Thank you!

What length 2x 12 can a 2x12 joist hangers handled

Asked by Dennis September 27, 2017

Answer

There is not a specific length limit, rather hangers are rated for allowable loads (download and uplift). Please see our website or current catalog for the HU212 allowable loads based on the wood species it is being attached to. It is up to the Designer/Engineer of Record to calculate the demand load for the specific application. Thank you!

This product is only available through special order, but it only took a few days to arrive for pickup. I have an older cantilever style deck with 3x8 beams that run out. I had decided to sister joist the original 3x8 beams due to aging and slight damage on both sides with 2x8 lumber resulting in an overall width of approximately 6 inches. These hangers were perfect for the job.

Excellent product. Worked great for attaching a double 2x12 beam to concrete piers. A little on the expensive side though.

Our contractor had a somewhat difficult time getting the bracket to fit around the width of the 4 joists. Blunt force had to be applied to one of the vertical sides to properly fit. We expected that it maybe would have been 1/4"-1/2" wider so that it could simply be screwed into place, since the 4 2x10 joists had been sistered as close to one another as possible. The end result was fine, and fortunately the hanger does not appear to have been beat up at all during the install. We are glad that home depot carried this product, however, since most stores did not even carry quad hangers.
