So you are spanning 10 ft. I recently built a deck and it was a 10 ft span using joists at 16 in centers and it passed inspection fine using the appropriate tie for the wood.

Can these be attached to concrete to hold treated stair stringers?

I asked my structural engineer how to attach these to masonry for holding floor joists. He said to attach an appropriately sized piece of wood to the masonry using Tapcons (for example) and then attach the joist hanger to the wood using the Simpson specified nails or screws.

Nails or Screws

Keith, Use the screws if there is the slightest force of horizontal pullout in each hole. Screws will not pull out with the wind racking the structure, like nails. In the angled holes use 12-16 penny skinner nails or 3" deck screws. It stops the horizontal pull and adds to the shear strength. Framers that only use the angled holes are taking a chance. Robert

ZMAX® is a thicker coating (galvanized per ASTM A653 with a G185 coating) than the standard hot-dip galvanized coating (galvanized per ASTM A653 with a G90 coating). This thicker coating is available on select Simpson Strong-Tie connectors.

Affordable and Sturdy
Bought it while planning to buil a riser for my theater. Because of the load and type of lumber I was using, I made the right choice. They are sturdy, strong, durable and the opposite flush face has pointy shape that can stick into the wood and two other holes to permanently hold the hoizontal lumber.

These hangers were used for my porch and they were very easy to use. The tabs are nice as they are used to hold the piece into place. Just make sure to align everything and it works as intended. Its been 3 years since my deck install and it still holds steady.

My porch broke in a section and so after inspecting i saw the problem was not just in one spot but growing all over. If I had not gotten this product and fixed the problem, My entire porch would have completely collapsed - it would not have made it through this summer, and definitely not the winter. A complete Porch Replacement would have cost probably 15-20k. After installing about 35 of these hangers, i predict the life of my porch just got extended to another 10 years. Thanks You Home Depot.
