Not only do angles make joints stronger, they also provide more consistent, straight corners. Simpson Strong-Tie offers a wide variety of angles in various sizes and thicknesses to handle light-duty jobs or projects where a structural connection is needed. The ML angle combines strength and versatility through the use of Simpson Strong-Tie Strong-Drive SDS Heavy-Duty Connector screws. Fastener holes are staggered to minimize wood splitting and opposing hole pattern allows for back-to-back installation without fastener interference.
  • Provide a 90 connection for medium/heavy-duty applications
  • Stronger than angled nailing or screw fastening
  • Help ensure joints are consistently straight and strong
  • Made from 12-Gauge steel
  • ZMAX galvanization offers extra corrosion resistance for exterior and treated-wood applications

can i use to splice a broken 2x4 horizontal ceiling rafter? dont appear to have a load on it. it's not broken completly threw

Asked by bill November 28, 2020

Answer

Hi! There may be various connectors that could be used for such a repair. However, this kind of scenario is usually an engineering problem if the joist carries some load. The simplest way to repair a partially damaged 2x4 would be to apply 5/8" or 3/4" plywood scabs to both faces of the joist and then nail/screws the entire assembly from both sides. This type of repair would need to be detailed and done by a qualified professional.

have you used this for a deck stair tread support?

Asked by nick May 6, 2019

Answer

The ML was not designed/rated for loads in the direction that a stair tread would put on it. Please see the TA Staircase Angle for a product intended for this application. Thank you!
