Depends on the engineering behind your application.
I have used these many times on an inside corner but I wouldn’t recommend using them as a standard joist hanger. They have nothing supporting the joist from underneath and I doubt using them in that manor would pass any kind of building code.

Q 12 gauge will support more weight. if building a shelf, 18 will work. If building a deck, strongly suggest the 12.

These angles were designed for using nails in Lumber I’m sure you could probably drill them out but I’m not sure what kind strength you would have after putting that big of holes into it
12 gauge is nearly 1/8 in. and you would find it very difficult to achieve any kind of a tricky bend into. Best.
