Metal joiners 20 gauge steel
This was the first time I used this product and was not impressed. I thought it would be easier and faster to apply these items. But they were just a pain and I stopped using them and adapted another method of joining.

Almost impossible for a person to get these mending plates attached without the machine that mashes them into the wood. Normal people should stay far away from these since they are totally useless and extremely frustrating. I returned them to the store.

I am attaching 4x4’s together. This is the best way for my application. I was using a 2lb mini sledge but that is actually too heavy and smashed the spikes flat. A regular framing hammer is all you need.

I used these mending plates to connect support beams for a 6ft fence. I placed 4 screws in the corners for additional supports. 10ft treated 2x4s would have cost 6.50 ea. These cut my cost in half

Easy install
Don't beat these type of connectors on with a hammer. I use a C-clamp to press them in. I put a piece of 2" wide x 3/16" thick steel flatbar between the connector plate and the C-clamp screw end. I've also used a mini vise to press them in.

Very difficult to use properly without a press
Another reviewer also noted that these plates are very difficult to attach to wood using a hammer and unless very solidly backed up will bounce out. The ones I have seen correctly installed seem to have been factory installed using a press. If someone has a way to do this better I would like to know it.
