Q:Can I use these in place of a BCS post cap ? I?m putting a 3x 2x12 beam over a 6x6 post.

Answer This Question
A:Â Hello Bapley, this is McKenzie with Simpson Strong-Tie. The APVT6 could potentially be used in your application. Be aware that your beam measures 4.5" and your post measures 5.5", so the beam would need to be installed flush to one side of the post, and only one APVT6 could be installed. Please compare the load values of the BSC2-3/6 with the APVT6 in the following links:

Q:Does this work for 8x8s, or do they make a bigger one?

Answer This Question
A:Â The APVT6 is the largest T Strap of this type. It would be up to the Designer/Engineer of Record to specify the appropriate connector based on framing layout, demand loads, local building codes, etc. Thank you!

Attractive, strong, easy to install. Galvanized ties were originally installed to connect the posts to the beam but these were very unattractive on the front side of the deck which faces the front of the house. The Simpson Strong Ties made all the difference in my new deck. I highly recommend this product.

Very nice detail on the end product! Added that pop to it! If you think it’s the right one go with your gut!

The T strap look great and seem to be well built. The screw/washer combination needed to install the brace is expensive and almost double the cost of the brace but is good looking and very easy to install with an impact driver. I wish there would be more engineering data and examples on what other connectors it can replace. I recently replace the post on a sagging deck where the post had totted but the deck structure was otherwise in good condition. I used Simpon Braces to reinforce the post to rim joist connections. The photos shoe the before and after.

It’s the best strap there’s ever been. After I had my carpenter install it on my 6x6 he painted it red. Now I sit here enjoying my covefefe and admiring my awesomeness
