Product Details

The RTU is designed for connecting intersecting members in wood construction applications. Manufactured to high-quality standards to ensure solid performance, this U-shaped rigid tie features a G90 galvanized finish for added corrosion resistance and requires the use of hot-dip galvanized fasteners. The versatile RTU is ideal for a variety of projects including fences, railings and utility furniture or any application where a 2x member crosses another.

A:  Hello Robert, this is McKenzie with Simpson Strong-Tie. Although we are not a lumber company and your application, regional code, and EOR should dictate wood usage, plywood is typically used for flooring, roofing, or sheathing.

    Q:I am using rough sawn cedar, which has a width of 1 5/8ths inches -- these ties are not wide enough. Do I have any choice for lumber intersecting at 90 deg (pergola rafters) other than hurricane ties?

        A:  Nope. This one is sized for 2" thick lumber. I think you will find similar options at Home Depot from the same manufacturer that will better meet your need. Going in person might be helpful so you can try fitting it together with the lumber you plan on using. (I just now see your question was asked months ago so it probably got resolved already)

        A:  The RTU2 is sized for a 2x member to a 2x member. We do not have a base intended for attachment of a wood post to a railroad tie. Thank you!
