Simpson Strong-Tie straps and plates join and reinforce joints with simple, versatile solutions for a wide range of connections. Available in many lengths, widths and thicknesses, straps can be used on the wide or narrow face of lumber for light repairs or heavy-duty projects. Many straps are designed to be used back-to-back on a piece of lumber without fastener interference.

    A:  The TP Tie Plates are not tested/load rated and are not intended for trusses. The only plates we offer for trusses are the metal connector plates indicated on the Simpson Strong-Tie® Integrated Component Systems website which are sold only to licensed Component Manufacturers in conjunction with the Simpson Strong-Tie Component Solutions™ software suite. The software calculates the correct connector plate sizes dependent upon the truss configuration, loads, spans, spacing, etc. These plates are not sold at lumber yards, building supply houses or home centers.         Q:using the 4-1/8 in. x 11 in. 20-gauge tie plate, what is the recomended nail type when attatching to 2 x 6 material?

        Answer This Question

        A:  The holes on the TP tie plates (including the TP411) are sized for 8dx1 1/2" nails, 8d common nails (0.131" diameter x 2 1/2" long) or SD#9x1 1/2 structural connector screws. It would be up to the Designer/Engineer of Record to specify which fastener to use and the quantity needed for the specific application. Thank you!
