About This Product

Add warmth and privacy to your yard this year with the Slipfence Horizontal Fence system. This Aluminum Channel Kit includes 2 (two) channels needed to build one 7ft. high fence panel. This kit combined with the Slipfence Post Kit, SF2-PK310 or SF2-PK312, provides a strong and long-lasting framework for your horizontal fence project. Attach these two channels to Slipfence Aluminum posts using the silver Self Drilling screws included, then slip in 15 pcs. of regular 1 in. thick deck boards, (called 5/4 deck boards), sold separately into these channels. If 5/4" deck boards are not available in your region, search Slipfence SF2-IHCK6 that uses 2 x 4 lumber. The result is a warm, fully private, contemporary, horizontal wood fence that has the strength and endurance of an aluminum fence with the warmth and privacy of a wood fence. This system requires Slipfence Aluminum posts and a Slipfence pair of Cap Rails, either one for the bottom and one for the top of each panel, or as recommended, one just for the top of each panel reducing the possibility of rot. Search SF2-PK3010 or SF2-PK312 for posts. Search SF2-HCR84 for Cap Rails. Once your Slipfence horizontal fence system is installed, the wood will appear too high for the channels. Please allow approximately 4-6 weeks for the wood to shrink and settle down to approximately 1" above the tops of the two side channels and then cut your cap rail to size and slip it onto the top of each panel and fasten with 2 black screws included.

Highlights

  • Inside channel width 1-1/8 in. to accommodate a 5/4 in. deck board with an actual thickness of 1 in.
  • Kit includes 2-side channels 81 in. long. 10 pcs. #12 self-drilling stainless screws to affix the channels to a Slipfence Aluminumpost. 50 pcs. - #8 Black Stainless wood screws to fasten boards to channels to hold 15 boards stacked for a 7 foot high fence.
  • Tools needed: Impact Drill, #2 and #3 Star (Phillips) drive for impact drill, chop saw (mitre saw), with wood blade to cut 12 boards down to 6 feet each, Circular saw with aluminum blade to cut cap rail to exact length, as well as posts to proper height after completion of fence.
  • Recommended space between posts is 6-feet. If posts are set longer than 6 feet apart, it is recommended that one deck board be fastened vertically to the back side centre of the fence panel after the 6-week board-shrinking period to prevent the horizontal boards in the panel from warping or bowing.
  • This channel kit is to be used with Slipfence post: 10 foot post: SF2-PK310 - SKU no. 303149326 or 12 foot post: SF2-PK312 - SKU no. 311798902. All Slipfence Posts include a post cap which is stuffed inside of each post end in poly-bag.
  • Screw holes are counter sunk for screws to sit flat leaving a nice flush surface inside channel to slide in deck boards.
  • Please reference Slipfence Horizontal Installation video here for a 4-minute installation video:https://slipfence.com/wood-aluminum-fence/horizontal/videos
  • If 5/4 boards not available at your home Depot Store look at SLIPFENCE Industrial Channel Kit SF2-IHCK7 - SKU No.320388076. to hold 2 x 6 boards instead for an industrial look.
  • Installation tip: Order 12 foot boards to the site and cut the boards on site so you are getting the exact board length needed to fit between the posts. When setting posts, you may hit rocks or stumps beneath the surface of the ground when drilling post holes. If so, move this hole back 6 inches to 12 inches and drill again. Do not move forward. if you set this post at 5'6" then you can move the next post to be 6'6" from this one so you are back to 6 foot centres on your fence line and still filling 2 panels with 15 twelve foot deck boards.
  • Upon completion of your fence panels the post tops may need to be trimmed. A cordless circular saw with an aluminum blade is recommended to cut the posts down to their proper height. Measure from the top of the side channel up the post 2.5"- 3" and make a mark on the post. This is the height above the channels that all post should be cut to. The circular saw will only cut 2/3rds of the way through the post so you will need access to the other side of the fence to cut the remaining 3rd. If you don't have access to the other side of the fence, a reciprocating saw with metal blade can be used to cut the remaining 1/3 of the post top off.
  • After posts are all cut to their proper and equal height, simply tap on the self tightening post cap with a rubber mallet which will also cover your post cuts if they are not completely even.
  • Top Cap and Bottom Cap rails or just top come in packs of 2.SF2-HCR84 SKU No. 308979361

Answer This Question

The inside dimension is 1-1/8" wide. This will hold a 5/4"x6" deck board.

Do you have this product that would fit a normal deck board thickness? Not the 5/4.

    Answer This Question

Hi Spencer, for a 7 foot tall fence- we only supply the SF2-HCK07 which uses a typical 5/4" (actual 1") deck board. Some customers have used a rough cut fence board which is typically 7/8" thick. Anything thinner will warp and crack quickly because of the 6 foot span between posts. Hope this helps. Thank you

I purchased the 7' fence brackets. Is it okay to use spacers instead of having the boards all touch? Is there a recommendation on spacing?
      ByJun 12, 2023
      1 Answer |
      Answer This Question

Yes you can create a semi-private fence. Level and fasten the bottom board. Use a temporary spacer for your desired gap (1/8"-3"), some customers have used a pencil, others have used scrap pieces of wood. Please your spacer at both ends, slide the next board in place: level and fasten both ends. Some boards will require you to pre-drill holes in the channel. Repeat the steps (complete 4-5 rows per section, start next section). Visit our website and view the Horizontal Installation video for tips and tricks.

How is this for a 7 foot fence when the height of this is 6.75 feet (81in)?

        Answer This Question

Thanks for the great question. When you are fastening the channels to the post you would leave a 1" to 1-1/2" space at the bottom to allow for air flow and water run off. The last horizontal board installed sits proud of the channel by 1" to 1-1/2". This equates to a fence height of 6'11"- 7'. Hope this helps.

Just what I needed, but with prices increasing on aluminum, won’t be able to finish my project.

The item is great but the price is over rated because the material is aluminum. If the material was galvanize than yes the price is just right. This goes for the fence post also.

This product is 100% as it is represented. We built a 18 ft. X 6 ft. horizontal fence for patio privacy, using cedar deck boards. The combination of the wood grain with the black metal posts, channels and caps is aesthetically pleasing. Solid quality and simplicity in design.

We were missing 2 caps and the rail was for a 7 foot high fence, not 6 like I thought I ordered. It created a lot more work cutting each one off
