Can this be painted and with what type of paint?
Hi Mary, yes this fountain can be painted. It's made of GFRC which is a combination of fiberglass and concrete. It can be either coated with a non-toxic epoxy such as Pond Shield by Pond Armor which will also waterproof and seal it, or if you just want to paint it you can use a spray paint from brands such as Rust-Oleum or Behr and they seal it with a matte clear coat. -SLHG
Can this be winterized for freezing weather and if it can be how hard will it be to perform this task.
This was the worst fountain I have ever bought. It stopped working shortly after I bought it and the paint chipped on the bowl with rain. It did not make it to the winter si I can't give advice about that.
After the sun goes down does it quit or does it store up solar power
This fountain works in direct sun only so when the sun goes down it will stop working. If you want a fountain that can charge up and store power then please check out our “Solar-On-Demand” fountains which have a battery backup.

I know some solars have to be plugged in to an electrical socket even though it is marketed as solar. Does this have to be plugged in, in any way at all? It would not be near an electrical outlet
No. This one is purely solar. Be sure to Clean the solar panels and use algae fungicide regularly to prolong life.
No this fountain does not need to be plugged into an electrical outlet. It runs completely on solar power using 2 solar panels in the bowl. It requires direct sun (no clouds, trees, screens) and does not have a battery backup. -SLHG
