AnswersYes, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to use a spreader. The ice melt pellets are about the same size as any fertilizer so it should work just as easily.

AnswersIt contains calcium chloride so no, I don't think it's pet safe. Do a search for pet safe ice melt and take it from there. I've used pet safe in the past but it isn't as effective and since I have no outdoor pets at the moment, I took it up a notch since I'm terrified of slipping on ice. Good luck...

AnswersI use it for my pool. You should mix it in a large bin (I use plastic garbage can) and then siphon the mix into the pool. It is not advised to have this sit directly on the plaster.

AnswersThe previous version mixed well with water. It was pure calcium chloride. The current formula contains large sodium chloride granules and does not dissolve as well.

A Good Alternative

The calcium chloride pellets are lightweight and easy to pour from the jug. I sprinkled them around after shoveling. You don't have to sprinkle them heavily if the ground is already shoveled. I didn't see ice or snow melt instantaneously but the path cleared up and they maintain their shape to keep working for hours. You have to be careful not to let them blow in your face, though because they can be irritating to eyes. It is a good alternative to rock salt.
A must to have for icy and snowy times.

Finaly we got some snow over night. I was amazed as soon I started using this product: the snow on wooden steps started melting instantly upon the contact with Ice Melter. As I have learned from info on the bag, this product is designed to work up to 2 inch deep snow, with lowest working temperature -25F and its active reaction lasting for 24 hours. With deeper snow is advised to clean snow with any snow thrower or snow shovel and then to use Ice Melter for finishing still messy surface turning it to slipping free surface. Ice Melter has added anti-caking protection and thus can be stored in its Zip-lock bag for longer time.
5 hours after application the weather got warm, all snow melted, but small pellets stayed on steps and walkway ready to melt additional snow.
There is warning on the bag (see pic.6) to avoid ingesting, contact with eyes, skin and clothing. While working with Melt, people should not drink and eat. Because I used it this time just for small area, I did not use any protection. But when using it for larger area, I will follow mfr recommendations and wear dust mask, gloves and eye protection and wash the face after finished. Melt is safe (in moderate amount) for using over turf while there are some exceptions for using on specific surfaces, see NOTICE on pic.5. I am going to keep smaller amount in zip-lock bag in my car. One never know when it comes handy.

This ice melt works fast even in below freezing temps. The day I received it I put right to work on my ice covered driveway, you could hear it crackling thru the ice immediately and within a couple of hours you could start seeing the pavement. After about 4 days of below freezing temps more pavement showed up then after temps went up the driveway was bare.

I put this Ice Melt on my driveway after we just had our first snow storm of one foot of snow. My driveway has an incline of a small hill. Every winter we have ice on our driveway and need to remove it to get up to the house. I picked this ice melt because you can apply it very cold temperatures as cold as 25 degrees below zero and it will still work if its 25 degrees outside. This ice melt worked fast under 10 minutes and totally melted the ice from the driveway and all the ice disappeared. The bag comes re-sealable however it detached from one side and now it does not reseal. They need to make the sealer stronger.
We just had thirty six inches of new snow fall!

Great product does the job! We had our first snow fall for the year last night. Thirty six inches came down over twenty four hours. The snow blower did its' job and now 50 lbs of Professional strength calcium chloride pellets will melt the rest away. Happy it's safer then salt on my concert walk ways. My online order came the day before the storm and it couldn't be more timely. The bag is re-sealable so I can store it for the next storm.

I was so glad that I got this ice melt before our historic snowstorm because it really made it easier for me to clear out some of the ice and frozen snow.
I have tried cheaper blends of ice melt, but these calcium chloride pellets are well worth the price! I was impressed with how well they performed.
The pellets are small and puffy and it was very easy to spread over the ice with my hands. It started working quickly and in a very short time, my steps were safe to walk on and the sidewalk was clear.
I was pleased with the ease of reclosing the bag with the zipper closure, even in the bitter cold with my gloves on.

This 50 pound bag of calcium chloride ice melt is here just in the nick of time. We have had an easy winter so far, but now we are right in it. I like that this is such a large bag and that it probably will last most of the winter if not all of it. This calcium chloride is the best for melting ice and not damaging the surfaces. It is very fast acting and will survive for 24 hours. It melts as low as -25 degrees. The bag is resealable to keep moisture out and the pellets in.
