A:  I suggest you take the shovel and your receipt back to the Home Depot Store you purchased it from. I have been using my shovel for 2 years with no problems. Perhaps it's a manufacturing issue.

Q:I am using this shovel for the first winter season and the blade doesnt seem to be as sharp as it used to be after a couple of times shovelling with all the snow we’re getting overhere. The blade isn’t smooth on concrete or my driveway anymore. Is this normal wear and tear after only using a couple of times? I thought this should atleast last a couple of years!

A:  I used my shovel the last two days with ten inches of snow hitting the ground. I haven’t had any issues with the shovel or the blade. The news said we had the most snowfall over two days in 129 years. I shoveled our backyard concrete repeatedly to allow my dogs access to do their business and to have a track to run Sorry to hear you are having problems with your shovel

Q:can this shovel be used as a push shovel also? Is the long handle long handle enough to push too?

      Answer This Question

A:  Yes, think of this as a sturdy traditional shovel with a spring loaded secondary handle bolted on. I switch between lifting and pushing when using this shovel. Works well for both.

A:  yes --but I don't think the metal wear strip is going to last very long! But I plan on using it a lot.

A:  You could use it as a push shovel in light snow. I doubt very much if the blade and shovel portion of this thing will hold up to pushing heavy or wet snow. Seems very flimsy to me.

              Really DOES SAVE my back!
I HONESTLY really LOVE my Snow Joe shovel with its extra handle, and it REALLY DOES "save my back" (as I'm 76 years old). The one THING that I wish they would improve upon is the fact that the aluminum wear strip (cutting blade) seems to GRAB or STICK when I reach the concrete level of my driveway. I know it would cost more, but my suspicion is that a STAINLESS STEEL wear strip wouldn't do this, and I personally would be willing to PAY MORE for one with that.

Snow shovel that saves your back. I use this Snow Joe shovel in concert with a snow blower. For steps and the deck and any detailed snow removal that can’t be handled by my snow blower, this shovel saves my back. I also appreciate the strength and construction of this shovel. I’ve now used this twice, one on a particularly heavy snowfall where I snapped a lesser shovel clearing ice out of my driveway. I somewhat reluctantly grabbed this contraption and never looked back. If you want a snow shovel you can aggressively use without hurting your back, this is it.

This is a great idea. We haven't had any snow yet in Eastern PA, but I did try this shovel out with some leaves and yard debris. The second handle is attached to a piece of steel strap, so it's far more flexible than other two-handled shovels I've seen. The strap can move as you pull, so it seems to ease the amount of effort required to lift the load on the end of the shovel. It becomes more of a pivot point than a lever. Shovel can be disassembled and stored, which is a nice touch for space saving. Can't wait for some snow!

Living in New England, I can’t have too many shovels! I used to be skeptical of Snow Joe’s “back saving, strain reducing” shovels, but no longer! This 20” shovel makes doing multiple passes during a big storm much easier and less painful. When I got my first snow Joe “Shovelution” a few years ago, it took a few storms to get the hang of it. All I can say now is that the “sling and fling” handle is VERY helpful! The Snow Joe has became my “go to” shovel and I reach for it before my ergonomic shovels… especially when the snow’s light and fluffy. As far as shoveling the wet, heavy, slushy snow, or the large, packed pile at the foot of the driveway left by the plow, it’s a chore regardless of the shovel I choose. So in those cases, I typically rotate shovels in order to rotate the inevitable aches and pains. The shovel is easy to assemble and weighs a mere 3.3 lbs. Weight is so important for me given it can take 3 hours to shovel out in a big storm. The aluminum blade is sharp and cuts through the hard stuff as well. If I don’t have the shovel in the correct position, I can catch an edge. I’m 6 feet tall and the 50” handle works well enough for me. It’s too bad the front handle or overall handle length can’t be adjusted up or down though. Lastly, the large plastic knob, which also acts as a handle-holder for storage, gets stuck on my jacket occasionally. Perhaps that’s because I’m left handed. I’m very happy this shovel has a two year warranty and that there are extended coverage options when registering online. The warranty not only covers defects in materials and workmanship, but also normal wear and tear items (as long as the shovel is only used for ordinary household and residential use). That’s awesome!… especially since my previous 18” Snow Joe’s spring-assist handle broke early in its second season. The constant flexing in the metal, which is soft, in conjunction with some part rusting caused it to snap off. My new shovel has the same components, so I’m concerned about durability, albeit less so with the warranty options. Great product!

As advertised, the design does transfer the duty from your lower back to your upper body. The spring loaded handle helps smooth out the shovelling process and eliminate jerking. Not sure why they call it telescoping snow shovel since it has just one length setting. The blade is made of steel and performs nicely, however its angle causes the shovel to catch on the surface. It also gets stuck in cracks easily. I wouldn't say this is a negative. I was able to compensate by decreasing the angle of approach and it worked perfectly. The shovel comes with a strap to hold the flexible assisted handle in a more compact storing position. It has a 20 inch wide blade which is a perfect size. Happy shoveling!

There wasn’t a whole lot of snow, but this shovel did the trick. I was skeptical that the handle in the front would make shoveling easier, but it really did. Again there wasn’t a lot of snow, as thank God, there has not been a lot of snow so far this year. But this shovel really does the trick and definitely makes shoveling easier and less strenuous. I can really recommend this shovel.

Unique, “spring assisted” handle design will require real snow to test. It snowed on Halloween and my worn out old snow shovel wasn’t up to the task of clearing the driveway, so I decided a new one was in order. I got the “Shovelution 20 in. Poly Blade Back Saving Telescoping Snow Shovel w/ Spring Assisted Handle” and of course it hasn’t snowed since! So while I haven’t given this shovel from “Snow Joe” a proper workout yet, it feels like it should be do the job. The shovel is pretty conventional apart from the extra handle. It’s lightweight but the 20” plastic scoop feels sturdy, and the aluminum wear strip should tolerate the usual scraping across concrete. It comes in three pieces (see pics) and is easily assembled. Thanks to the extra handle you can stand fairly upright while shoveling. Otherwise the straight shaft would force you to bend over uncomfortably. The extra handle is really unique but I’m not really sure how it works! The “spring assist” comes from the flat metal bar that forms the helper handle. I guess when you lift and throw the snow this “springiness” gives you a boost. I’ll update when I actually get to try it with snow. Model # SJ-SHLV20

This snow shovel is going to come in very handy this winter. I was able assemble it in just a couple minutes, and it can be disassembled for storage just as easily. The "back saver" feature of this shovel is really nice. With two handles, you can lift heavy loads of snow using both hands at the same time, and without straining your back by bending over excessively. The shovel is light-weight and durable, and I am looking forward to a deep snow this winter to put it to the test.

Just in time for the snow! Easy to assemble and lightweight, the SnowJoe Shovelution is just what I need. The spring action handle takes a little getting use to, but once you find your rhythm it’s easy. The 20” blade provides a wide berth of snow to be shoveled, making the job more efficient. When it’s time to store, the shovel is easy to disassemble. We’ll see as the winter goes on, but for now, I’m happy!

The Snow Joe Shovelution 20 inch poly blade back saving telescoping snow shovel with assisted handle is a well designed snow shovel that will save the aches and pains of your back after moving snow. The shovel pictured with the Snow Joe shows the size of the shovel and the spring assisted handle. This short handle that is spring activated will save the extra snow shoveling strokes of lifting the snow high enough to empty the shovel and a quick way to empty the shovel. I highly recommend this shovel.
