Does the semi-dwarf loropetalum grow fast or slowly.

It may take a year to get established. If you prune it down to only 10-12 inches of plant remaining just after it blooms in the spring, it will quickly send out nice shoots that can be 6 feet long. Just let it grow all summer and it will be nice all winter and then bloom pink in the spring. Prune just after and repeat.

Home Depot site says "Winter hardy in USDA zones 7-10". We bought it in Overland Park, Kansas (zone 5 - 6) for planting on south side of our home next to the foundation. Growing well in hot dry summer consistently over 100 F. Have not endured winter yet.

When is the best time to trim so we don’t lose the spring blooms?

Answer

You want to prune soon after the plant has bloomed in late spring/early summer, this will help insure that your are not pruning off developing buds

I ordered two of these online, shipped to my home, because they were not available in local stores. They arrived in 3 days in a special plant box with air holes, in excellent condition (moist soil, pot wrapped in a plastic bag to hold moisture). This was my first time ordering Home Depot plants by mail. Since I was so pleased at the price, quality, speed of arrival (and free shipping!), I'll not hesitate to purchase this way again.

Kind of hit or miss with these. Had 1 out of 4 arrive in not so good condition, but HD readily sent a replacement. I do note however, they don't do so well as a potted plant. Much better in ground and with lots of sun.

IT was died when I received it but I planted it anyway hoping there might be a little life left in it, and I keep watering it but it is just a died stick, sticking out of the ground.
