Is this ok to feed a 100 amp box 800' from the meter box ?

Asked by Pop September 4, 2016
1
Answer

No. You would need a much larger wire for that long of a run, due to voltage drop. 2 conductors per phase utilizing a #750 Aluminum conductor will limit the voltage drop to 2.73% or less when supplying 100.0 amps for 800 feet on a 120 volt system. Advice is based upon the current edition of the National Electric Code (NEC). Free access to the latest version of the NEC is available online at www.nfpa.org/freeaccess. The NEC and local building codes regulate the types of wire and cable that can be used in specific electrical applications, as well as the manner of installation. Check your local building codes before you start any wiring and cable electrical project and be sure to obtain required permits. When your work is complete, always have it inspected for compliance with local codes to ensure that it has been safely installed.

Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot, Tom. We do not carry this wire on a 500 foot spool online. However your local store may be able to special order that for you. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future. Thank you for shopping Home Depot.

Is this cable available in the Clinton MS store sold by the foot?

Asked by DOOO December 9, 2014
1
Answer

You would have to check with the local HD store in Clinton. I know that depending on the area you are in, certain stores carry different URD cable on their wire machine for "cut to length" options. It is NOT available "by the foot" on-line. We do make it in a 500' roll, but again, you would have to check with the local HD store to see if they carry it. If not, you could always special order the product.
