does this 16/2 cable include a ground? Romex 14/2 includes two conductors PLUS a ground, so does...

This cable has one black (Hot) and one white (neutral). It is most commonly used on power tools and appliances that have a 2 prong wall connector. If you need the third green (ground) wire, you need to get 16/3. And i get what you're saying about how this wire is listed and how it's different than solid core romex. It's confusing.

Does this have stranded conductors or solid? Specs say solid but pictures look stranded.

Will this power cord work as a replacement cord for a vacuum cleaner?

Answers

If your vacuum cleaner has a 2 prong power cord, yes. If it uses a 3 prong cord, you'd need to get 16/3 of this type of cord.

Can I use this within a PVC electrical box?

Answers

No. You need to use solid core romex for permenant electrical installations using electrical boxes. Not to be a jerk, but if you have to ask a question like this, please go take a class or do some reading on the topic of electrical wiring and code requirements, or hire a professional. It's not worth burning your house to the ground just to save a little money.... or killing yourself.

Do you have a 150 ft. Cord that can replace 15 10ft. Extension cords?

Yes, depending on the load, this product can be used.

what is the diameter of this 16/2 sjoow black 300volt power cord

From a different manufacturer’s spec sheet for the same type of cord I found this: 0.310 inches (7.87 mm) I assume Southwire’s reply of “313 mils” was supposed to be “0.313 inches”. Perhaps they could clarify.

what is the overall diameter of this power cord?

will this wire work well with the mighty mule 500 gate opener as the low voltage wire?

Asked by bigfoot March 23, 2015

Answer

This product is a flexible portable power cord and per the NEC is to be used for temporary connection of a device to power. It is not rated for direct burial. If used as a permanent wiring solution (hard-wired at both ends, not using a disconnect plug), the installation will not be NEC compliant. If a weather-rated disconnect plug and receptacle are used on one end, the installation would be NEC compliant but it may not be as reliable as a hard-wired solution. 16/2 low voltage landscape cable is available but it may not be rugged enough for this application. We would recommend a product with a jacket over the insulated conductors. If you do not have a copy of the NEC (NFPA 70), you can now access it (and other NFPA codes and standards) for free on the web at www.nfpa.org/freeaccess. And remember that it is far better to hire a professional electrician for jobs like this than risk injury or fire by doing it yourself. Your safety and the safety of those around you are more important than any money you might save.
