Product Details

Southwire's Viper SOOW portable rubber cord is used for wiring industrial machinery, motors and associated equipment, portable tools and equipment and temporary electrical power and lighting installations for construction sites. Also used for flex applications in harsh environments where the highest degree of oil resistance and extended service life are essential. Can be used in wet or dry locations.

Q:Is this UV protected?

A:  Absolutely! EPDM Rubber is used as the insulation and has excellent UV resistance. I bought this wire to make a high amperage outdoor extension cable and it's been holding up phenomenally for the past two years.

    A:  If it's going to be for a significant amount of time, then I would recommend supporting the cable to prevent breakage of the outer jacket and potential insulation failure of the conductors. I have, in the past, supported this cable for that type of application by running 1/4" or 3/8" steel cable tightly across the same span, and securing it to the steel cable every 6 - 12" cable with either Jip Ties or 3/4" key rings, taped to the wire cable but allowed to slide on the steel cable.

          A:  Just under .5" or 1/2 inch. The data sheet for this cable lists an O.D. range of 0.425" to 0.475"
