          Answer This Question

A:  The teeth are same as the blade. Not sure how to sharpen.

          by|May 15, 2019

A:  The teeth are very fine, so I'm not sure if a sharpener would fit to do the job, but the metal seems soft enough. The blade is just a bit more aggressive than a hacksaw.

            by|Apr 20, 2021

A:  This is a great question. The short answer is that the teeth are not blackened. In addition to the Fat Max (which is an excellent saw), I do have another saw which has blackened teeth. Each tooth on that saw has three sides. To my limited knowledge, tri-ground teeth cannot be sharpened.

                Beautiful Straight Saw !!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a beautiful straight saw and perfect member of any carpenter’s or wood worker’s box. It has sharp fine teeth and is absolutely straight to make nice clean cuts. I use mine with a miter box. I was able to cut across a standard 2x4 as well as my 40 tooth finish blade in my miter saw with very minimum break out. If I flipped the wood there would have been none. The saw didn’t do well with heavy duty PKII 2” PVC pipe. It got stuck several times and ended up cracking the pipe, so I will stick with wood or moldings. Handle is secure and comfortable to use.

                  Good all around saw
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Picked this up for some general all around hand sawing. I have used in on green and dry wood and it has worked nicely. There is some tear out on the dry wood but otherwise cuts cleanly. I really like the weight and feel of the saw. It is heavy enough to cut with out pressing on the saw and also has a comfortable grip.

Comfortable Grip, Solid Blade, Fine Finish
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I just used this to cut up some firewood and try it out. The handle on this saw is very comfortable—fits snugly in your grip with no slippage. The blade on it is much more firm than I anticipated, no bending whatsoever. This, along with the teeth, created an extremely smooth finish that I wasn’t really needing to break up firewood, but will be much appreciated in actual future projects. Would give this 4.5/5 just because 14 inches felt a bit short, but a great little saw to carry around with you.

You don't need power tool for every cut
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First impression this saw looks like what doctors would use to take someones limbs in old times. Wow. It cuts smoothly. I always forget to grab a hand saw for cutting little work pieces. I use my multi oscillating tool but a hand saw gives you great control.

                        Cuts clean every time
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve been redoing my molding in my living room because I wanted a fresh look and the FatMax Back Saw has made it so much easier because it gives me precise cutting , after I was finished my friends came over an ask me who I hired to do my work I was so proud they just couldn’t believe that I had done it all myself so if you need to do any cutting of fine finish plywood and hardwood I would definitely recommend that you do it with the FatMax Back Saw because it makes it look professionally done.

                          Expected better
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this saw to cut a piece of scrap pressure treated fir for repairing deck stairs. The teeth felt sharp to the touch on my hand, but the cutting action took longer than usual with a brand new blade. I’m hoping that maybe at least the teeth will stay this sharp much longer than saw blade teeth normally do. That would at least be a decent trade-off.

                            Fast & easy cuttings
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Stanley FatMax saw is the perfect tool to use to cut moldings and other home projects that required a nice fine cut finish. Its a size 14" and has the adequate weight to have the job done easy without having to feel exhausted. The rubber handle quality is comfortable and the saw blade teeth is very sharp for quick jobs. I use it in all my projects because it simplifies my work, and gives me professional results. I totally recommended, it's a great quality tool designed to give fascinating fine cuttings.

                              Good saw
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This saw has a nice and thin kerf and produces a clean cut with very little tear out on the back side of the cut. I have found that the blad is rigid but not too stiff. The only issue I have is that the handle is a little small. I have a larger hand, and I have to wear XL-2XL gloves. This made the handle uncomfortable for my hands.

                                Great saw
I do carpentry work for the dollhouses which I make and need to cut pieces to make special architectural details. Since I am not very strong, I rely on the saw to help me cut through dense wood and it never fails me.
