Workhorse of a Plane
I am a woodworking teacher and I teach handtool woodworking to students from 1st - 8th grade. I have a few of these planes in service every day. The kids love them and they work great. I also have some vintage Stanley hand planes and a few new ones. They can take a beating and as the kids say the work and shavings are so satisfying.

This is a good plane if you don’t want to...
This is a good plane if you don’t want to spend 100$. It took me 10 minutes with some sand paper a file and a diamond stone to get it running good. If you are really making fine cabinets or something maybe you want something fancier but otherwise I have found this to operate pretty much the same as the ones from the 90s

Nice block plane with a little work.
The Stanley Bailey block plane provides a decent starting point that if one is willing to put in the work to tune, can be made into an accurate and reliable tool.
