Under current model designation, this is a Stanley 12-951 flat base spokeshave. Under the historical designation, it was known as a “151” model and the numerals 151 are still cast into the metal body of the spokeshave.

Yes but keep in mine that the blade is not to wide and it is a small unit designed for small work. Good Luck

Not sure. If you have a good local hardware store they may have a solution for you in their nuts and bolts bins. Good luck. Try Staley website

Poor Quality Control
The photo should clearly demonstrate why I will never buy another modern Stanley product. I don't expect to have a perfectly flat sole, but this cap iron is just embarrassing. I would like to hear a Stanley representative explain this mistake.

AAA+Put a Johnson Sliding T Bevel on the front of the Cap Iron which I filed both rough bottom and front to a knife edge and then transferred the angle to a Swanson Speed Square ie front Cap Iron is right on 50 degree angle. Shavings caught under Cap Iron and jammed the Spokeshave. 15 minute fix it

Absolutely recommend this Stanley spokeshave! I already have a nearly 90-year old version of this spokeshave and the tools are quite comparable. Please take some of the tool reviews with a grain of salt. Many well intentioned reviews are submitted by individuals who have no experience with these traditional hand tools. This tool is actually a bargain at the price HD retails it for. Buy it, then learn to sharpen, use and really enjoy this Stanley spokeshave. It’s absolutely a keeper tool!

I bought this STANLEY Spokeshave with Flat Base to hand carve full-size ornamental airplane propellers of laminated exotic hardwoods (see photos). It's the exact same design as the ones in Mr. Z's 7th- grade woodshop class in 1970. The body & cap are made of cast iron, so I flattened and smoothed the underside and top bevel (chip breaker) of the cap on a stationary horizontal belt sander to keep wood shavings from wedging between the cap and the blade. It works better pulling it toward you, rather than pushing it away from you. Keep the blade sharp. Unless you're roughing and rounding a sharp edge, take light cuts. For "planing" with the full width of the blade, skew it slightly so the blade slices, rather "chisels" through the wood. When reassembling after sharpening, make sure the beveled side of the blade faces down, or it will scrape rather than cut.

Stanley are one of the best
I have bought cheaper spoke shaves for my workshop classes to make camping Yurts and they just don't work as well as the classic Stanley. It is worth paying the extra to get a smooth shave action where the blade cuts cleanly without juddering. Home Depot are the cheapest in the internet.

Stanley must actually read the reviews Several reviewers complained of the Spokeshave arriving with all parts loose in the pouch and getting dinged up. However, I am fairly certain the cap screw on mine was tightened by an angry Bruce Banner. I almost re-injured a hernia dismantling this thing. Anyhow, I am familiar with planes and chisels but this is my 1st spokeshave. I was pleased to see the iron was razor sharp from the factory. It’s not smooth or polished and the cap and sole need some TLC but still an excellent start. I put it back together and used as-is to get a feel for it. I am making pistol grips using cocobolo wood and a prototype set made from black walnut. The tool cuts well on both types but is HEAVILY technique dependent. Half the issue is holding the parts securely. I hope to be proficient is just a few decades.

One of the holes for the adjustment screws is at an angle and placed in the wrong spot. It makes it impossible to adequately adjust the blade. Nothing is precise about this and tuning it up is impossible. It’s inexpensive so I don’t know why I was expecting better quality.

I'm used to stanley products coming rough, but this was pushing it.
I know that stanley hand tools are always going to require some work to get them cutting well, but this one was so rough that even hours of flattening and adjusting have only left it "okay" . It even came with a huge divot which had been panted over, but which catches the shavings as it cuts and clogs it up.
