Product Details

Star Brite Teak Cleaner and Brightener is the fastest, easiest way to clean teak and other fine woods to prepare them for oiling. It will safely remove old oils and stains without the need for sanding and will restore wood grains while enhancing a warm natural color. Easy to use, it produces great results on teak and other fine woods. Badly weathered (grey or black) teak: Apply Star Brite Teak Cleaner and Brightener directly to dry wood. Spread with stiff bristle cleaning brush or a Star Brite Medium Scrub Pad. Allow to remain on surface for approximately 2 to 3 minutes, then scrub in the direction of wood grain to ensure deep cleaning. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water. To preserve and protect cleaned wood, apply Star Brite Premium Teak Oil. Note: Immediately rinse spills and drips from surfaces not to be treated. Avoid contact with fabrics.

    A:  This would depend on how generously it is applied as well as the condition of the wood. We do not state a surface area but generally a table and 4 chairs can be done with this amount.

      A:  It’s just a cleaner.  I can’t see it stripping the stain.  You can always check with the manufacturer to get an answer you can count on.  Good luck

        A:  This would remove a stain. It is intended to return the wood to a bare wood, in preparation of oiling the peice.

          A:  I don’t have a definitive answer but what I know about acrylic stain is that it has to be peeled off essentially. So pressure washing would be a better route. I used this in some old sun beaten ikea furniture. I definitely still had to put quite a bit of effort into cleaning it. I wouldn’t recommend overall.

            A:  I used 4 or 5 contains to refresh 2 teak chairs, a bench, and a table. It all ran off my back deck into the surrounding lawn and garden. I did not see any damage, and I completed the work about 2 weeks ago.

            A:  You might want to water the plants BEFORE using this or any cleaning product around plants or shrubs.

              Our badly weathered teak bench needed help. Lichens and mosses had settled in and the wood was grayed by years of neglect. I scraped the wood prior to remove the worst of the stuck on bits. I then used the cleaner/brightener to clean the bench further. This loosened more "crud" from the surface which I removed with various tools and abrasive pads. I rinsed and scraped several times to really be sure that everything that could be easily removed was. I let everything dry overnight. I did some light sanding to remove some black stains that formed from water puddling where it shouldn't have. The Starbrite teak oil added the "cherry on top" to our newly cleaned bench! One coat of that did the job of restoring our bench to something that resembles nearly new condition. The attached picture shows the bench with a rain water finish as well as the teak oil!

                This worked beautifully on our teak furniture. I’m happy with the product. However, we had such a big job (a lot of teak to polish) that we ended up pressure washing everything and it was so much faster and less back breaking. Highly recommend for young people with a smaller scale project. Old fogies might consider a pressure washer.
