A:  They are very sturdy. I have them stacked 10 is some instances.

A:  I find them very sturdy and they do snap closed. I purchased them for my shoes but I also I find them great for holding all the odds and ends from my junk draw, also great for those kitchen gadgets you hardly ever use but you can never find when you do need them. I just put little labels on them so I know which ones hold what. My only problem is they do not lock closed so they can open when pulling them out of a high shelf.
