Q:What is it made of? And how thick is the material.

A:  Made of fairly heavy gauge steel. Much thicker than the normal / less expensive charcoal chimneys. Larger as well. I am very happy with mine... I have two!

    A:  The material is steel not sure of the gauge but it is thicker than the other chimneys I have had in the past. I am hoping for more than one year of service out of this unit as compared to the other units I have had. Warning - the handle is made of plastic and gets hotter than the wooded handles of the lighter gauge chimneys;.

      A:  It depends on the size of the grill you have. I have 3-4 chimneys mainly to cook my trash can turkey in the fall. For burgers or steaks you should be ok with one fill up but you can always either add more coals or fire up another scoop of coals.

          A:  I have a very large barrel grill, so I use two. One should be adequate for a standard large grill. I think one should work for 332 sq in cooking area.

                The handle heats up (to the point of needing a glove) more than the other chimneys I have had. The box is thicker gauged metal and seams to hold more briquets than other brand which is a plus. The start to ready time of the charcoal is about average

                  I wasn't even going to say anything, but since you're asking: the extra handle was nowhere to be found. Not attached, not in the box. Ok, can live without it. Got for larger capacity. Then, first use, the painted wood handle totally blistered. I was actually shocked to see that. It will suffice, but not worth the extra money.
