Questions & Answers

I need an electric tankless water heater for a house that is 3800 sqft how big does it need to be

Asked by: Berenice
The electric tankless water heater's capacity is not measured by square footage. It is measured by how many showers and sinks you want to supply with hot water. check out their website.

DOES THIS UNIT REQUIRE A 220 LINE TO OPERATE?

MY HOUSE CURRENTLY HAS A 150AMP SERVICE!
Asked by: REFEREE
no, you don't need 220. you need 240, is to hot wires. and a ground 220 would have a neutral. no need waste of wire.

Can you apply a circulating pump on this unit?

Asked by: Alfred
There is not enough reservoir water for the pump to pull from. You would need to add a reservoir, thermostat at the pump, and watch your electricity rise.

Customer Reviews

Stiebel Eltron Tempra 24 Plus Advanced Flow Control and Self-Modulating 24 kW 4.68 GPM Electric Tankless Water Heater is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 104.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product! I was worried that this unit would be underpowered, but it's not. I wanted the larger Tempra 29 model, but I only have 200 AMP service coming into my home, so I had to "settle" on the Tempra 24. I put "settle" in quotes, because I really didn't have to settle at all. The Tempra 24 performs great, heats up quickly and runs flawlessly. It's more than enough water flow for a single person to take a hot shower with great water pressure and flow and for someone else to be using hot water to wash their hands, etc., in another bathroom. It will support two people taking hot showers at the same time, but the water flow to both showers is decreased by about 40% ... but still usable for a shower. All in all, I highly recommend this product! I'm very happy with it. Best of all, with two daughters in the house who have decided they love to take "hour showers", there is finally hot water left for me!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good whole house unit This larger unit took the place of a point of use unit I mistakenly had put in, based on many positive reviews of people using it for the entire house. The smaller unit didn't deliver the hot water I was used to getting with two hot water tanks. I had it replaced and this unit professionally installed. The electrician and the contractor were impressed with this unit, and so was I when I got the hot water I have come to expect. The contractor was impressed that the unit is German-made, rated for a 2 bathroom home in a cooler climate, and designed for residential, commercial, and industrial applications. What's not to like about that? I'm very pleased with my purchase, which should handle any hot water needs I have for years to come.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleased Although this product seems a little pricey, it exceeds the performance of our last whole house tankless heater. We have not had it long enough to comment on cost effectiveness, but we have used a whole house tankless heater for 13 yrs. with considerable savings. Delivery was prompt. Installation was not difficult considering we did it ourselves. A very quiet unit that provides hot water to several areas simultaneously without heavy fluctuation. Overall, love this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent replacement for a tank! I am single with a kitchen, laundry room, and one bathroom and hated paying for keeping at 50 gallon hot water tank running, especially since I am away from home a lot. I did my research and decided on the Stiebel Eltron 24Plus electric on demand water heater - I don't have natural gas or propane. With the exception of having to run a 100 amp sub panel (#6 wire) and removing the old tank, the installation was a snap. Endless hot water!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Arrived early and got mounted simply enough. Used 2 x 24" flex hoses to connect both water lines within minutes. Purchased the 6x2 wire and the recommended 2 x 60amp double pole circuit breakers required per manual. Running 2 strands of the 6 gauge wire 60' to main panel through studs in 10F temperature was the difficult part (thick cold copper wire that gauge does not like to uncoil). Had electrician connect both ends (panel and heater) and was done in less then hour and back up and running hot water throughout house. Haven't run long enough to note energy savings, but compared to heating an old 80 gallon heater continually would think it would. Definitely a space saver and so far well worth the investment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product! 3 years ago we made the move to a natural gas powered tankless Aquastar water heater and have had a ton of issues since. After concluding that we've had it with potential explosions to satisfy our desire for long hot showers, I set out to do better research this time around. Everyone kept talking about the tankless heaters in Europe and South America that operate with no problems. The fact is that most of those units are electric. Gas powered units almost all have some sort of complaint on the internet reviews - regardless of manufacturer. Amazing reviews on this Stiebel-Eltron unit. Our place is small(one shower, two sinks) so you first have to ensure that your power panel is minimum 200amps service and has to double slots for the required 2-30amp breakers(!). Local distributor sold this to me. It's an amazing sight - slightly larger than a big VCR! Opening the unit shows what appears to be a well-made explosive device. The wires are thick gauge and well organized but it's all very basic - circuit board and heating elements. Electrician did the 6/2 gauge double wiring install and we were functional a few seconds after I applied teflon tape to the piping. The little dial on the unit coorelates to a digital temperature readout right underneath it. 116F(it goes up to 140!) was more than enough to get plenty of heat to the shower and sinks(if desired). As per other reviews, tankless water heaters *do* require maintenance. Our area does have hard water and we don't have the space for a water softener. We're planning on doing the 8-12mo vinegar flushes. So figure another $100 into the cost of the unit for a sump-pump and vinegar. 6 weeks in, the unti has continued to perform flawlessly and I suspect, based on the many stellar reviews, will continue to do so.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does a great job for our family of 4 We purchased this unit about 1 month ago, replacing a Natural Gas water heater with 40g tank. The savings in space, and the removal of the fossil fuel device were our key drivers for this purchase. Our Electric bill has increased significantly, by about 50%, but because we never run out of hot water, showers tend to be longer. And now we can actually fill our tub with hot water without boiling extra water on the stove, so this also has increased our usage. There is an issue with temperature stability, when a toilet is flushed or other demand for water is turned on, the temperature swing is very noticeable. I have added a shower temp gauge, and have seen the temp drop from 42c to 39c when a toilet is flushed, it takes about 10-15 seconds to recover, and likewise, when the water demand drops, the temp goes up from 42c to 44.5c for several seconds. This shower valve has a pressure regulated flow control, so changes in the water will take some time to correct. Pros: Save on Space, endless hot water, retired fossil fuel appliance, not storing heated water we aren't using. Cons: High electricity costs, temperature changes when pressure changes for several seconds

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleased The product was surprisingly easy to install once the larger wire was run to the unit and multiple breakers it requires were installed. I live in relatively warm Texas and according to the supplied chart, it should have easily been powerful enough to handle at least two bathrooms. This is one of the "Plus" models, which means it restricts the flow when demand for hot water exceeds its capacity to heat it so that the water is still just as hot, it's just not flowing as fast. But not only did the flow drop signficantly when more than one faucet was turned on, the flow to my master bath was restricted even with no other faucets running. As a result, my wife complained about how long it took to fill her tub. That sounds like a problem, but it actually brings me to my favorite part of the experience. Home Depot On-Line chat told me I had 30 days to return it to any store (much more convenient and cheaper than shipping it) no questions asked, so I ordered the larger Tempra 36 Plus, returned the Tempra 24 and now I have plenty of flow for everything. The larger unit did require another breaker and run of another circuit of wire, but it was only about $100 more for 50% more capacity.
