Product Overview

The French door and double door reinforcement kit prevents door kick-ins by adding extra security. FBI statistics show that the majority of home break-ins are caused by burglars kicking in the door. French doors look great, but offer the least resistance to door kick-in attempts by burglars. Made of cold rolled steel, this patent pending easy to install kit provides real protection by reinforcing both active and passive doors, the passive door top slide bolt, and all door hinges. All installation hardware is included. It does not require additional locking devices. It is powder coated white to match most homeowner's trim or can be painted to match any decor. The StrikeMaster II French and Double Door Reinforcement Kit will fit most French and double doors. Also repairs and strengthens already broken doors and frames.

I just finished the installation, which I completed over three sessions. It took about 2.5-3 hours overall to install, and I did have to buy a bi-metal hole saw to enlarge one of the holes in the strike plate because the door would not latch properly. Overall, I’d give this a 6.5 out of 10 in degree of difficulty to install for someone who rarely does anything like this. Will it work? That remains to be seen, but I can tell my French doors feel more secure. Before I installed this product, I could feel a lot of give in the door when I pulled on the handle while closed; I think I could have easily kicked the door in. Now there is nearly zero movement when I pull the handle with the doors closed. I won’t know how secure my door is unless someone actually tries to kick it in, but I do feel that it is more secure now based on the pull test.

Great system! Definitely stiffened up the doors as well. Directions were also very good. Just to give a little FYI that I was not sure of prior to purchase, the stationary door requires the removal of two screws prior to using after the installation. This is fine with me as the door is rarely used and removing screws are easy with a drill.

Didn’t fit. There’s no adjustments for varying door fittments. The passive door has to be a specific thickness without edge trim for this to work. Very high price, should have options in case you door isn’t exactly as the kit designers intended.

Was easy to assemble but had to take the top of the door piece off after I put it on because I had to do the hinges. Needed to do the hinges before the top. Directions should of specified that.

The StrikeMaster II was fairly easy and straight forward to install. We ordered the French door version. The second door lock is screwed down but that doesn’t concern me. I watched the online install video to familiarize with the product. I would recommend watching before you start installing.

Installed easily but not sure of how effective it is until someone tries to kick in the door. The top piece that holds the non active door in place does not bend well to allow you to open the second door. Then when your able to bend it enough it is then bent out of shape and rubs the paint off door.

This product is for wood doors 1 3/4 inch thick correct? I purchased storm security doors at 1 inch thick. I had the set here and no way can configure to 1 inch screen doors, I don't have an image but they are your Grisham security screen doors 555 series.

I installed these parts in far longer time than the instructions indicated. The most difficult part was the piece with the bent tab, which was difficult to install on the door that is typically fixed, because as you close the door that piece tend to bend, and with the 2 tabbed cut-outs, that's the weakest part of the piece. Also, if and when you need to open the fixed door, that piece needs to be removed in order to do so. I was wondering if there is another way to redesign this piece? All other parts were installed without any problems though.

It is not a bad product. The door is more secure for sure. Was disappointed with the top flange for releasing the "passive" door. You need to remove one long screw to accomplish this. This is fine for me but many people are not handy with knowing what to do or removing one screw. It should be redesigned with a tool-less release mechanism at the top to open the "passive" door. I do understand it would add more to the cost but it might be worth it.

      Not for recessed doors
I called strikemaster and attached a photo , Showing the upper portion could not be attached as shown in the instructions. My French door is recessed outward into 6 inch walls. per the instructions, you bend the upper portion to allow the door to close. Due to the frame and mounding, this is impossible. Strikemaster said they had never experienced a problem like this before and had no suggestions. I did install the large strikeplate which will help a lot.

Not only does this have to fit the length between your door handle and deadbolt (which I measured before buying) but it also has a lip on it. So there's a lip on the guard and that moves where the deadbolt is forward. It didn't fit on any door in my house. Had to cut and use medal grinder to work.

I would recommend this product even though it did not fit on our French doors do to some extra molding on them that prevented it from fitting flush. We did get the StrikeMaster II for ever other outside door in our home and they worked great

Needs modification to fit old doors.
Used this to reinforce some antique solid core wood doors. The knob/lock placement on these old doors is not standard so I had to use a hole saw and metal file to make a new hole in the reinforced striker plate for my dead bolt to work. I also ended up removing material from my astragal so the strike plate sat flush on the passive door. The instructions say 30 min, that might be possible if everything fits with no modification, it ended up taking me a few hours to make the modifications for it to work on the old doors. Once in it is solid and achieved the purpose I was looking for. You do have to remove a 2.5in screw to open your passive door once this is installed.
