Is 10 tons enough to split a hardwood like Oak?

Asked by: Chaz
Yes, but I'd keep the log diameter around 6"

Will it split a log that’s 18” in diameter? Acoording to the ad, it’s looks like it can be done.

Asked by: Coach
I bought it for my wife and she has been able to split at least 18" pieces. You may have to rotate it depending on how dry the wood is and even type.

How do I purchase a manual for Sun Joe10 ton splitter

Asked by: Frankie
If it even came with a manual it would have been a short one. Step 1, place splitter on flat ground. Step 2, place log between wedge and jack plate. 3) turn valve clockwise to enable jack plate to move toward log. 4) use handles in a crosscountry skiing motion to split log. 5) turn valve counterclockwise to retract jack plate. Hint: stop retraction just above the point needed to fit the next log in order to save time and effort.

Logger Joe 10 Ton Hydraulic Log Splitter is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 279.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best logsplitter EVER! I LOVE my SunJoe logsplitter. I am 69 yrs old, female. I had a bunch of tree logs that were too big for my fireplace. I decided to invest my money in my own logsplitter rather than pay someone to split it for me. Also, I couldn’t find anyone who could do that for me. So, I bought this amazing ligsplitter. It is easy to use, no set up necessary. I can split my logs easily now, whenever I want. I love it. Easy to store also. I highly recommend it, especially for women who want to be self-sufficient! I have 1 suggestion, however. The hole where you pour in the hydraulic fluid was painted green, indistinguishable from the body of the ram. I finally figured out how to open the plug, but I still haven’t poured in the fluid yet. I hope that will be easy once I try. But, if you need a logsplitter, get this one. No gas, no electricity, just a little effort - and tada! Split logs!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great alternative to expensive powered splitters I have (had) a moderate number of large logs in my yard from dead trees that had been take down. With this log splitter, I've been able to convert them into firewood. This product isn't for anyone who wants to split logs as fast as possible or doesn't want to put any physical effort into it. I'm in no hurry, and I don't mind a little upper body exercise (I'm 60). Over a few weekends in the last couple of months, I've been able to turn dozens of logs into firewood. I've split close to a face cord so far. Note, this log splitter will split logs MUCH larger than its 6.5 inch specifications would indicate. I'm including a picture of a typical sized log that I've split (about 16 inches in diameter. It takes several passes of splitting the log into smaller and smaller pieces, but I was able to split the log in this picture in less than 10 minutes into about 8 small pieces. A great product, I highly recommend it.

For my small Jotul wood burning stove 10" to 11" logs are ideal. However, the Logger Joe is designed to split wood between 18 1/2" and around 14". The website SHOULD mention the minimum length. That is too long for my stove. I would have to saw each piece in half after splitting them. Obviously that is not convenient, so I place a spacer log between the ram and the log I am splitting (Both logs need to be placed lengthwise). The way I use it is NOT recommended by the mfr. because of the possibility of wood flying out under tremendous pressure. Someone will try to put a spacer log in sideways. So I would not recommend that method to anyone either. However, that is the way I have to go to avoid a lot of extra sawing. It seems that the splitter could be designed so that the wedge could be moved between a range of distances from the ram. That would make it a lot more flexible. Regardless, this is a good splitter and it works for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Husband loves it! I bought this for my husband for Christmas. He is 66 and loves to split wood as a pastime in the winter. I warned him about cutting length max 18" and rounded ends that cause so he would be forewarned as he hates reading instructions. Works great! He is very happy with the way it works and is safer then using the axe as the seasoned oak is hard to split. He is very pleased with it. I have split some would with it as well and I'm 69 wood split easily.

I'm not sure the handles / rods used to move the hydraulic jack will hold up. It's a great work out and there's no motor to maintain...…..except your body of course. I don't have a lot of wood to split, it'll work for me. Nice feature with having wheels on the back. It's very easy to move around and store's nicely in my garage standing up. That's a GREAT feature.

For that reason I would have given it only 4 stars. However, the non slip pad glued to the beam started to come off after splitting a total of 9 (nine) logs, resulting in the 2 star review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am very happy with the performance of the Logger Joe but I have only used it for about 10 hrs. ... I am very happy with the performance of the Logger Joe but I have only used it for about 10 hrs. My only remaining concern is how reliable is it, I previously had a log splitter that did the job but only lasted 2 years (about 200 hours of use) because the hydraulic jack failed. My previous hydraulic splitter had 2 spring clips to hold the 2 drive handles. I liked that because I had a place to store the drive handles. This is a suggestion for design improvement. I have a few suggestions to first time users: Always put poles back in their working location. Limit the return of the cylinder to the length that will be needed for the next split. When you return the cylinder always tighten the hydraulic flow knob to the max. Use both poles to separate cracked wood by putting both in the crack and move them in opposite directions. Do not bend poles in the process. Always position the logs so the splitting wedge is directed toward the center of the tree rings. If there are any small or large cracks on the cutting surface of the log, that is a good place to align with the splitting edge. It is a good idea to have some cut lumber to add to the length of the ram so you can split pieces that the ram won’t reach (suggest 1”, 2” & 3” thick pieces). I always use only the longer stroke piston unless the force needed to advance it is too great, then use the smaller stroke piston. If the log still won’t split, before releasing the pressure use a sledge, hit the side of the log at the splitting end. If this doesn’t work check the alignment of the log with the center of the rings. Use a wide stance when removing split logs to reduce bruises on your legs joe

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works better than expected I was a little apprehensive about buying even after reading other positive reviews about the Sun Joe Log Splitter. But after splitting the first log with relative ease I moved on to larger logs and had the same outcome. The line I kept using was 'if it fits, it will split!!'
