Questions & Answers

can this be floor installed. for example in a bedroom floor to pull cool air from a basement?

Asked by: bs
No reason it could not be - but you need an electrical source which may not be as available in the floor. Also consider the design of the system - the supply side where you are drawing air from is basically a coverplate for the ducted fan. The side air will blow to is what you see in the picture - with a larger rectangular frame including a directional louver so you can aim the air a bit, and a control knob for turning the fan off and on to the desired speed. If this is mounted on the floor, will it be covered to some degree to avoid being stepped on? Regular cleaning would be needed to keep the control knob from getting gunked up. In theory it seems like a good idea, just wonder if there is a more practical way to use existing ductwork to move air from the basement up (also consider what you really want is air from the bottom of the basement to an upper floor - rather than just the basement ceiling).

I am thinking of purchasing this fan to install in a wall to remove warm air from the bottom of an enclosed staircase (in a stilt home) into the garage. Will this work for that purpose?
Asked by: Sam
I used it to remove air from a small data room, into a large open room to dissipate the warm air, with a small fan on floor to move air toward this wall fan, only concern is moving warm air to enclosed garage space, and i don't think this fan is powerful enough, only my opinion

Can the unit be separated so that it collects hot air near ceiling and blows it out near floor? Could empty insulation from between wall studs.

Asked by: Twoply
No, the duct needs to be within the wall cavity, and it's not recommended to use the wall cavity as a duct.
