Light Transmission (Refers only to transparent Products) The Product shall not lose more than 8.5% of its light-transmitting capability (hereinafter “decrease”) for a period of 10 years from the commencement date as defined below as a direct and exclusive result of solar radiation impact (as measured pursuant to the procedures specified in ASTM D1003-77). 1.B. Impact and hail resistance The Product shall not break due to loss of impact strength as a direct and exclusive result of weathering and/ or, shall not break as a direct and exclusive result of impact of hail, measuring up to 20mm diameter, attaining a velocity of up to 20 m/sec (Loss of above capability shall be hereinafter referred to a “breakage”). best way to install 2' x 8' panels horizontally not vertically for a continuous side light on the upper wall just below the eave. Panels will run butt to butt for the entire length of the wall from post to post.

      Answer This Question

Installing Palram Sunlite (multiwall polycarbonate) panels horizontally is generally not recommended by the manufacturer. These panels are engineered for vertical (wall) or sloped roof installation to ensure proper water drainage and structural integrity.

When installing the panels on a barn wall for a side lite 48' long, what is the best way to connect the butt joints and cover ends?
        ByAug 4, 2025
        1 Answer |
        Answer This Question

✅ 1. Connecting Butt Joints (Panel-to-Panel End Joints) Since Sunlite panels typically come in lengths up to 24 feet, for a 48' run you’ll need to join panels end-to-end (butt joint). Here's how: Use an H-Profile Connector Aluminum or polycarbonate H-Profile (ideally aluminum for better strength and thermal performance) should be used to connect panels at the butt joints. Leave a 1/8"–1/4" expansion gap between panel ends inside the connector to allow for thermal movement. Seal the joint with appropriate silicone sealant (100% silicone, polycarbonate-compatible) inside the profile if water sealing is needed. ✅ 2. Sealing and Covering Panel Ends Use U-Profiles (End Caps) Install polycarbonate U-profile end caps on the top and bottom of each panel to protect the internal flutes. Drill small weep holes in the bottom U-profile every 12–18" to allow condensation to drain. Seal the top U-profile with clear polycarbonate-compatible sealant to block insects and moisture. Add Anti-Dust Tape (Highly Recommended) Before installing U-profiles: Use vented anti-dust tape on the bottom end. Use solid aluminum tape on the top end. This prevents dust, algae, and insects from entering the flutes while allowing moisture to escape. ✅ 3. Mounting Tips for Wall Use Ensure the panels are installed with the flutes running vertically (for condensation drainage). Use Palram-recommended fasteners with rubber washers to prevent leaks. Maintain UV-protected side facing out (check panel markings).

What is the best way to connect the panels together. Do they have something that you can use to connect the panels to each other
          ByJul 19, 2025
          1 Answer |
          Answer This Question

HI Robert, For Sunlite sheets, it is recommended you use a 100% silicone sealant, or any silicone sealant/adhesive that is recommended for polycarbonate material. Then use Palram fasteners with special EPDM washers to predrill all fastener holes with a 3/16" drill bit to accommodate for the thermal movement of the panel. Longer length sheets should have holes over drilled. Failure to accommodate thermal movement will cause buckling of the sheet. Attach fasteners every 12" in the vertical direction. In high wind areas, fasten every 8". Use 2" fasteners for all roof applications. DO NOT overtighten fasteners causing the rubber washer to compress.

I would like to attach these to a hoop house greenhouse thats 10ft wide and 6.5ft tall. That means to go all the way over would take about 15 or 16ft. Could I use 2 of these and bend them to meet at the ridge and then cover with an aluminum ridge cap?

Used these as shed windows. They have a UV-side, so keep that in mind when installing. They have recommendations for orientation that I didn't follow, so hopefully that's ok. Cut with a sabersaw fine enough.

Excellent product capable of surviving -40 degrees
I bought the panels in October 2022, since then they have gone up considerably! As far as installation went - I converted an old shed into a green house. I used roofing screws with the nylon washer and drilled the hole slightly larger than the shank of the screw to accommodate expansion. I did not install to manufacturers recommendation given I had to keep the siding on the front of the shed, so it was a completely different installation. We had -40 this winter (Alberta) and no cracks or degredation to the polycarbonate sheets at all. The panels were easy to cut with a fine jig saw blade. Drilling the holes were easy too. When cutting or drilling you do not want to apply too much pressure. The panels are light weight and I installed them myself while my husband was baking. I will be buying more to do one or two panels for the roof once I have added in additional blocking on the roof (more for snow load).

Love the roofing, but hard to connect with snap cap provided. Added as part of my deck roof so I wouldn’t block the sunlight to my kitchen. Turned out pretty good. Used a lot of silicone.

                  Nice substitute for glass
I bought this to redo a room partition that was made from a louvered door. I cut out the slats and replaced them with this sunlite polycarbonate. It liiks really good, almost like glass and much cheaper. However, it was NOT easy to cut with a utility knife. If i had it to do over, i would try using a saw, but i was trying to avoid scratching it. Unfortunately, it took about 20 passes with the utility knife for each cut, and i ended up with some scratches anyway. It was much easier to cut lengthways since i didn't have to cut across the ridges. All in all, im pretty happy with the way it came out

Strong and durable. Great on shed roof to allow light in. Installed over existing, different type of panels, damaged by acorns. Very satisfied with ease of cutting with utility knife and installing these light weight but very strong panels. Panels not damaged by walking and kneeling on while on shingle roof. Panels drilled well and held up to pressure of water tight screw fasteners. Was glad to see these panels in The Home Depot store. After being very satisfied using a similar panel ordered from Home Depot, these larger, easy to cut panels will suit many projects. Highly recommend these translucent roofing panels.
