SureSill pan installation -what's size of screw to use for suresill pan 4 9/16 inch x 78 for glass sliding doors?

Answer

No screws needed. There are 2 slots on the side for nailing, only 2 nails needed. The sill is held in place by caulking and supported by the nailing slots. I used the same size for the same application you are using for.

I have French doors want to replace a sliding glass door but I need the sill plate and whatever else it takes to install

I purchased 2 SureSill products for 2 pairs of patio doors. Excellent product. I installed these myself as I am a DYI Owner/Builder. It is designed to help drain water away from the inside of the doorsill. Use a good sealant underneath the Suresill as you want to keep wind driven rain from coming under the door sill. That was a major concern as I have constant 40+ MPH winds when it does rain. This doorsill will not work with extremely heavy [1000 lb] custom wrought iron doors.

My walls are 2x4 but my patio door is 5-3/4 thick by 72” Wich sill pan should i use??

I’m not sure what you’re asking. If you’re asking about sizing, the pan comes a little longer than you need and you cut it to the size of the rough opening. I hope this helps.

2x4 framing. Window is 48x60. Which size should I purchase?

Typically, 2x4 framing warrants a 4-9/16 sill pan but you will need to measure the back of your frame on the interior side to your nailing flange or brick mold to accurately give you the correct size sill pan. Afterwards, you will need to order the 78 inch pan and it will come with everything you need to install.

Answer

We always recommend using SureSill as it fully prevents any water intrusion. We always going this route rather than going with a flashing membrane as it is more susceptible to water intrusion. Flashing membranes could eventually over time deteriorate and leave you with a rotten frame. Our sill pan system has a 10 year guarantee.

You should plan to shim the ends slightly.

Is this suitable for continuous slab? I don’t have a step down landing.

No the Sure Sill Pan has a lip on the bottom of it. The lip would have no place to rest on a continuous slab.

How much height does this add to the bottom of the sliding door. A previous answer said 1.5 inches. 1.5” seems wrong.

According to the SureSill website, “Sill Pan size should be equal or slightly larger (1/8” -1/4”) than the door/window frame size, when measured from the back of the frame on interior side, to the nailing flange or the brick mould.” So, it seems that it’s the door frame depth behind the nail fin that really matters, not so much if the house is 2x4 or 2x6 framing, right? Based on this photo of the Master Piece door, it appears that the 4 9/16" SureSill Pan would be compatible with only a 3/16" gap before flooring.

It would work with stucco, however you wouldn't want to stucco right up under the door because it would then trap water

Skeptical to buy at first, but I took a chance on this. Ordered it online and took a week to come in. Great condition and was easy to trim to size and install. I used the recommended OSI Quad MAX caulking (purchased separate). I installed it with French double doors and it looks great. Blends in perfect with door to the point you can't notice it unless you knew what it was. Funny thing, it started pouring rain while I was in the process of putting the new trim on so I left the trim off till the storm passed and sat back and inspected the inside for any leaks and everything was good!

Product was well made and easy to install. I was replacing an ancient aluminum sliding patio door on a concrete slab that had cracked and had some pieces falling off. It was an uneven, pitted mess. The SureSill made an clean, even, good looking installation. I did have to shim it and caulk it good to get a waterproof seal, but that will be necessary no matter where you install it. Highly recommended.

Recommended by the door manufacturer of my exterior door. Looks like a great product. Cut length to fit and glue the end pieces on. In my opinion you should still flash and prep the opening as if you don't have this product to be safe while you have access.
