It is bolted to a concrete slab weighing about 8000 pounds It is 1/4" steel and is rated for an F5 tornado.
I have an above ground shelter mounted with Hilti bolts to the garage floor. With the door closed, I get a cell signal, also my tablet picks up wifi signal.
No shelter on the market is ever ‘approved’ by FEMA. However, all of our storm shelters and tornado safe rooms are FEMA Compliant. FEMA has a strict set of standards by which all companies should build their tornado safe rooms, and Survive-a-Storm Shelters pride ourselves on the fact that we meet and in some cases, exceed their expectations.
No, a person can not stand to be locked up inside for few hours.
12 stainless steel bolts into a 10' x 10' x 6" slab
A lot of bad information here. this WILL conduct electricity as all metal does; however, you should be absolutely safe since you will be inside this and the current will flow outside along the metal and not through you. bolting this to concrete will essentially ground it. I would not consider concrete an insulator especially when wet. To summarize this, lightning should be a non issue and would not even factor into any consideration when purchasing this.
Well -- if it was a big closet with a big opening....and you had lots of help getting it in there it could fit in a closet. See though that it is 4 feet across, 6 feet tall and weighs over 1000 lbs. And the closet would have to be big enough to get the door open. Good luck.
The unit is held by 12 stainless steel bolts to a concreet slab at least 10' x 10' x 6"
It could only be installed in a house at the time for construction because the diameter is 52"
It is designed for a first floor or a basement. It is designed for tornadeos hitting a single family home. It would offer reasonable protection in an earthquake. in a home or single story building.
