Can this wood be used for a DIY dish rack? From my understanding this type of wood (walnut) is on...
Asked by Chris November 25, 2020Water is always a problem for hardwoods but either option can certainly be used for a drying rack. I would recommend a sealer like Waterlox that actually penetrates the wood instead of just coating the wood like other finishes. It is also waterproof and food safe. When filling the rack, space items as far apart as feasible to encourage air flow. I would also recommend wiping water from accessible wood sections, including the legs of the unit where water puddles on the counter or mat. After removing dry dishes, wipe down the entire rack with a clean, dry cloth
