How much is the slide

Asked by LK June 6, 2020

The Cool Wave Slide is pictured on the Pine Bluff Swing Set. You can find it here on HomeDepot.com at this link - https://www.homedepot.com/p/Swing-N-Slide-Playsets-Yellow-Cool-Wave-Slide-NE-4675-1PK/202943288

I was just wondering if a 4x6x12 beam could support the use of a center point saucer swing instead of the two swings

Asked by Ash May 15, 2020

Yes, 4x6x12 would work. The hardware that comes in Pine Bluff kit will only be long enough for a 4x4.

Pretty basic but its all we needed. As others said, we stained the wood before setting it up and it looks much nicer. It has kept the kids busy during quarantine which was its intended purpose. It took two men two days to set up, but there were a few errors along the way.

awesome playset
my daughter loves this playset. it was a 3 man job that took about 6 hours. was missing the 2 swings and took like 8 days for them to come, very disappointing. we did end up using 4x4x12 to give more space in between the swings.

Very easy to assemble and my grandsons loved helping me and as you can see in the picture they could not wait to get on it before I got it totally completed. This is a very heavy and safe swing set.

Overall, we're very happy with the product. The design is very sturdy, and we expect our daughter to have fun with it for several years. It took my parents and I (who are fairly experienced woodworkers) about 4-5 hours to assemble, as we took our time to make sure we were doing it right. As another reviewer noted, the 1" boards for the steps and top of the platform wanted to split when we attached them with screws, but when we predrilled it was no longer a problem. Clamps really came in handy when attaching the 4x4x10' to the top of the last A-frame. Our kit was missing a set of brackets, so I contacted the company's customer service and, despite it being a Sunday night, they responded in two hours to say the missing brackets were on the way. By the way, I actually think our swing set looks better than the stock photos because we pre-stained everything with a nice cedar stain the night before we put it together. We originally considered purchasing a much larger playset, but ultimately I didn't want to take the chance that our daughter may decide she doesn't like it, and then my family and our neighbors would be stuck staring at some monstrosity for years. I already know I'm happy with my decision, and we can always add onto it later.

really good and sturdy but change out the screws
This set is just what I wanted: simple, sturdy and fun. I am really happy with it. That said: we had two problems. 1) the wood screws that came with the set had a star-shaped top, and the bits that came with it failed pretty quickly. We ended up going out to get a box of philips head wood screws. I wish we had done it first thing; it made things go much better. Problem 2) the instructions were primarily just pictures and we amateurs managed to install the top plates backwards, with the flange folding over the 4 x 4s, instead of facing out to anchor the top (12 foot) 4x4. We had to take them out to reverse them, which was a pain, due to the star-shaped screws and the failed bits. All's well that ends well, however, and our grandsons (2 and 4) love the play set. I am glad I went for the 12 foot top piece, instead of the 10 foot. Just makes it all a little more spacious.

Worth It
My kids have been wanting a swing set for a while so I decided to build them one. You can probably buy the wood and hardware and come out cheaper but I cannot confirm. I had been reading all the reviews about folks needing 3 or 4 people to build this so I was worried because I only have myself. With that said, I built this by myself. It would have helped to have a friend though. I didn’t have one of those at the time! The key is to brace the A-frames so they will stand on their own. (See picture) That’s the hardest part (and it’s not really that hard). I have a pneumatic nailer so it made it a little easier. It took me about 8 hours to complete. The box says one hour build….no! Maybe one hour if this was you job and you did it every day. I went with the 4x4x12 to add monkey bars in the middle. Holds up quite well. Very strong and not wobbly at all. I used the 2 ½” screws that were included.

We LOVE this swing set!
We really love how the 4x4s make this a very sturdy swing set. That was the main selling point for me and my husband. A lot of our neighbors have the giant multi-level play set but I really just wanted something simple, sturdy, and nice looking for my 4 year old twins. This set is just that. We did a 12ft board instead of 10ft and put a hanging trapeze bar in the center of the two swings. We kept the dimensions from each side the same for the swings and then centered the trapeze bar with the remaining center room. It is plenty of room to swing. It is so sturdy that both myself and my 6ft 190lb husband have both swung on it and we haven't even anchored it yet. We did spend a bit more and got the upgraded slide. Make sure you clean out the holes well on the main beam after drilling. We put the full set together before drilling for the swings like previous reviewers stated and that worked well. We also sorted out all the parts into labeled baggies the night before to make it a smoother assemble. It took two men and a 3rd helper (for mostly holding purposes) about 5 hours to put it together. We used both 3.5inch deck screws where we could and the screws that came with it. It all went fairly smoothly.

Quite the project and totally worth it.
This took two people (my dad and I, and he's got mad carpentry skills) about 10-12 hours to complete, so be aware. We found the included screws worked well. Our set included the climbing rocks and when we installed them, one of the "weld nuts" sheared off. Happily we had an appropriately-sized substitute available. This was a lot of work, but none of it too terribly heavy or hard. I would FOR SURE use a corded drill - no way a battery-powered one would have survived this task. My 8-year-old son and his 9-year-old friend swing side by side with no trouble on the 10' long beam. My son loves it and it will last him much longer than any of the similarly-priced metal sets I found.

Excellent Swingset
What a great swingset! Overall, this is a quality set. I feel so much more comfortable having to buy the 4x4 lumber vs buying those other sets that come completely packed. Sure, it does cost a bit extra but a worthwhile investment. This set is heavy and doesn't budge!! I opted to use a 12' board for the top to add a 3rd swing. It took a little bit of extra time to calculate the measurements but it is well worth the extra space. The instructions are not the greatest but assembly was fairly easy. Take some extra time to make sure your measurements are correct for the top beam or you will be redrilling some holes. As mentioned in other reviews, buy some quality 4" deck screws for the A-frames. Oh, and pre-drill holes! I completed most of it myself in about 7 hours. My wife lent a hand just to hold things in place. For the slide, I went with the basic Alpine Wave Slide. Not that heavy duty but my kids are young now and it will serve its purpose. Overall, I am very satisfied with the set. The kids love it!!
