Can the window be oriented up/down opening instead of sideways opening?
No, the window referenced is designed to be a horizontal operating unit. Please speak with your local Home Depot store for other window options that may work best for your project needs.
With the built in J channel, does that eliminate the need for a vinyl J channel? I am replacing a garage window that has vinyl J channel matching the siding, will I not reuse that?
Correct, the unit referenced has the built in J-Channel which does eliminate the need to use the vinyl J-Channel. However, the window J-Channel is a single wall J-Channel and can be removed if you would like to use the current vinyl J-Channel that matches the siding around the window.

Why is this window not recommended for high altitude?
The units being referenced do not have capillary tubes or breather tubes. Insulating high-altitude glass uses a tube system which allows the glass pressure to equalize at higher elevations. If the pressure change is large, the insulating glass panes can fracture and/or the sealant holding the glass panes can rupture causing seal failure. Please contact your local Home Depot for other window or door options that may be best for your project needs.
