Q:What exactly did you use for the top ? Or roof?
by|Sep 1, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  It comes with a roof. The roof has a green shingle material covering it. It is held in place by two pieces of wood. I strongly suggest that you use a really good wood sealant on each piece before you assemble it. I have had mine for 3 years now and the sealant is gone and the wood is starting to show signs of wear.

A:  I removed the back panels to place against the house then used those panels to go a level up. Added a little screen for gaps and made my own roof  I recently purchased this again and will be expanding current design.

Modified bottom with a base and wheels
After modifications, it turned out really good. We added a couple boards on the bottom and then added casters so we could move it into garage in case a hurricane comes through. We also added fake grass to the bottom. May cat loves it!

              Painting it Takes FOREVER
We paid someone to assemble this for us, but first I painted it. Painting this is a multi-day, multi-person project. Total nightmare. Next we had to deal with the window to catio situation. I ended up jimmy rigging an air conditioning duct. It looked terrible. Finally we switched to the bottom half a doggie door and cut a hole in the screen. They love it. We keep the litter box out there so our house doesn't smell. Totally worth all the trouble. But it was a lot of trouble.

                I did some changes
We live in Michigan snow on flat roof will not work. Adjusted roof pitch used 2x4's to hold Coragated roofing up. My cats now have a 12'x3' playground. Door could have been bigger.

                  Power Drill a must.
The directions are not easy to understand. I would have given 4 out of 5 stars BUT 1 of the panels was a duplicate and we had to rearrange all the panels AND move all the diagonal decorations accordingly. What a mess. I'm happy with it now.

Picked it up at the store and assembled it with modifications to strengthen the structure , used clear corrugated plastic for a shed roof to get more sunlight, and made long shelf for a top rail. Our Kitty is using it daily and getting familiar with it. Expensive but well worth it .

You need a power drill and a couple handy people, but this is a perfect solution to giving your cats a bit of fresh air in a safe and contained area. I did not use the door provided, but made a cat door from my screen door directly into the catio.

Great catio!! Just the perfect fit, it was fairly easy to built once we got the grasp of it lol. We placed right next the window, rolled down the back metal grid and added a cat flap to the window. We also added some drift wood inside to make climbing fun, our cats love it!

This was the perfect structure for my aviary. I made some minor modifications like cutting down the size by removing two panels and adding a base and tin roof. But it is a generally well constructed product! If I didn't want to use it for an aviary, I think my cats would have really enjoyed it.

It was a little confusing at first, but made more and more sense as we went along. My cats LOVE it! I have seen it sold for less at other online retails, but knew Home Depot would stand behind my purchase! I am very happy with my product!

I would have given this a 5 star if it weren't for the fact it was stained redwood. How many houses have you seen that are painted redwood. It stuck out like a soar thumb so I painted it white like our trim. It looks better, and the cats love it. Well our only male cat, who is the reason we put this up in the first place, jumps up by it, looks out at it, then jumps down, goes to the door and meows to go out the door. So I pick him up and put him in the Cattery/Catio. He doesn't stay to long in it but I think he'll get use to it. One other thing is, you can put this on the ground or deck as free standing or you can hang it on the wall. The only problem is there is NO floor to it, which is kind of dumb if you want to hang it on the outside house wall over an open windows. We had to improvise a floor so we bought a roll of quarter inch squares fencing and some 1"x2" wood. We screwed the 1x2s at the bottom then stapled, with an air compressor, the fencing. I then put a pad and 2 cat beds on the floor and a cat box. The cats love it. So after all that, we do like it, after I painted it white and put a floor under it.
