AnswerI did lots of reading online before I made my drapery panels. The HGTV site recommended a ring/clip 6 to 8 inches apart. Each of my panels without pinch pleats was 54" wide, and I had a clip at each end so I used 10 with 6 inches between on each panel. I could have put them 8 inches apart and used 8.

These rings look great and were the perfect size but the clip mechanism is weak (they are holding up unlined thin drapes) and some of the clips let the fabric slip off even after hanging it with all the rings. The drapes are up and holding but I am afraid to close them as any movement may result in the fabric slipping out of the clips and falling to the floor.
They do the job...

I have some light-weight coppery-bronze drapery rods in my living room and needed rings to match. These coordinate quite nicely and the price was decent.
However, the clips which hold the drapes are attached to the rings by short lengths of wire which have been soldered to the clip and then bent into a hook to slip over the ring. No two of these wire hooks look alike, definitely an "off-shore" assembly. But fortunately the wire is flexible as this allows you to adjust the clip when it doesn't line up properly with the ring, which happened several times..
