Questions & Answers

Can the brace work in reverse, holding the post up?

Example shows the brace installed with the post leaning away from the brace. Damaged post is then brought to the brace and secured. Because of ground slope and close retaining wall, I don't have 8 inches on the side of the post leaning away from where the brace would be installed. Can I install the brace on the side where the post is leaning toward, where the brace would be installed? To do this, I would have to prop up the post to be plumb before installing the brace.

I used mine that way. Put in two. They seem very strong.

Can these lean a fence post back toward neighbors side (problem is not leaning into neighbors' side but into my side)?
Asked by: ken
Simply put wedge it with a pole from other side until install is complete. Worked very well. I have install 4 so far and have had 70 mph winds barely move the fence with these in.

I have a wobbly privacy fence, and would like to make sure with the gusty storms we've had lately that it doesn't come down. Do I need to wait until the soil the posts are in is completely dry (that is, no rain making the ground soft and muddy), or can I go ahead and use the brackets (with the concrete, of course) in the muddy ground?
Asked by: Noobie
Matt I noticed in the description picture of the product installed next to the fence that it has a broken weld also. Is this in the same spot that yours broke?

First, I would like to say that this product is surely a great way to mend a fence without the expense of tearing out the 4x4 post and having to possibly replace the cedar pickets as well. Secondly, compared to other 'mending fence options', the Fix-A-Fence is a unique idea and works well for mending a wobbly 4x4 post. I installed them in a slightly different way from the step by step procedure that is provided in the package when you receive them. I dug the hole slightly larger than what is recommended. The holes that I dug measure a little over 8” in diameter and 20” in depth. By digging hole larger, I was able to use a 8” concrete tube. The concrete tubes come in 4’ lengths. As such, I cut the 4’ concrete tube 20” in length. By cutting it 20” allowed me to have the concrete flow under and around the black pipe on the Fix-A-Fence product to actually encase the black-colored portion of system totally in concrete. When setting the Fix-A-Fence in place and aligning it with a level, I fastened it loosely to the base of the post with one of the lag screws provided. By fastening the Fix-A-Fence ‘loosely’ at the base using the bottom hole, allowed me to better align the system and keep it in place while pouring in the concrete. Two to three days later I secured the base lag and installed two others in the two remaining holes. The existing 4 x 4 post is there to stay!!! Attached you will find several pictures of my installation.

Should be advertised as more than fix a fence because it is applicable to new installations where the typical install is not possible resulting in a need to brace the fence by not pouring cements around the fence post. Also, a recommendation to improve applicability is to advertise that with a 2x4 (example only) into the inside of the original vinyl pole and that then you would be fastening the brace to more than just the original vinyl thus strengthening the install. There are many more DIYs out here than there are contractors so open up your view of the "village."

I elected to go this route after looking at numerous YouTube videos and looking up information of various products. I did not want to have to remove my top & bottom rails on each side of my damaged 4x4 post in order to use other cheaper or inferior fence mending devices. Digging the hole is the hardest. Mix your cement, pour, let set over night. Next morning, screw the brace to your leaning 4x4 and it feels like it was never broken, rotten etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It fixed the fence post just like it said it would. I am a 63 year old grandmother, and I did this by myself. I dug the hole, put the cement in and everything. It worked really well. I had a fence post that was cracked on the bottom and leaning over into the neighbor's yard. It is now standing up straight and is extremely solid. It worked just like it said it would. The whole process probably took me an hour and a half. Like I said, I'm 63. It did take me a little while to dig the hole, but I did it, and I am very pleased with the outcome. If I could do it, anyone can. I highly recommend this product.

I installed 2 of these at my back yard and it was very good, the digging a bit tough especially in the close proximity of the previous poured cement post and clearing some of the tree roots but in the end, the job is well done. I would recommend this type of fence mending for all repair but at the end of the day, it all depends on the location and the amount of space available to install it. it workes for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressed My fence had 4 rotted posts that were very old. The fence was leaning heavily and was going down soon. I put 4 of these in and yes it did work but the really impressive part was that we had 70 mile per hour winds come through about three weeks after install and the fence barely wiggled at its worst. My neighbor lost his fence during the storm and has now ordered a few. Great product and made in America to boot.

Very robust stiff construction allows one to dig a hole beyond the original concrete in most cases. You use 1 bag of concrete to secure it. IMO is much more secure than the other systems that simple shove metal into the existing concrete and do nothing to really strongly secure that metal to the ground.

The problem I had with installation was that when the fence was originally installed, the top of the concrete was at least 8" to 10" under ground level, which is probably why the post deteriorated and the post whole was 14" in diameter. This did not allow me to center the anchor as directed, and had to ad a 1" x 4" spacer to the existing post.
