23 in. x 23 in. Fixed Stainless Steel Chimney Cap

Not a lot to say. Measured the chimney so I knew what size to get. The cap fits over the outside of the chimney. Not directly on top. Has holes in it so you can screw it on to the chimney so wind can't blow it off. Keeps critters out of your chimney and allows good flow for smoke and gases to get out.

The stainless steel is reasonably thick gauge and the overall construction seems sufficiently rugged for its assigned task. The price is right, and it was the only chimney cap in the whole panoply of choices that was the right size. So it was either this one or get one custom fabricated. The aspect that annoys me: When assembled, the cap top edges are not close to being parallel to the bottom edges -- that is, they are sufficiently out of alignment that it is blatantly obvious close up, and you can even notice it from a distance post-installation. (Of course I have been pre-conditioned to notice it, so a random onlooker might not notice anything.) The holes in the cap through which one runs the bolts were punched are imprecisely located, and while there is some leeway for small shifting of the cap there is nowhere close to enough to fix the situation.

Flange is wider than size specified. Screwed up our day because we had to make it work by cutting it down to size it was supposed to be. Will not order our caps again from them

Very simple to build, and easy to install. Excellent product for protection of a 3 flu chimney stack. This unit eliminates the need for individual caps that are tough to secure. I would highly recommend!

The cap works and is keeping water off of the crown of our chimney. Two minor issues I have with the cap design: 1) The sides slide together, but do not lock, which makes putting it together a pain. On a flat surface it stays together, but the second you attempt to put it down on a curved surface like the crown of a chimney, it comes apart and the sides detach from one another. I had to assemble it on a level surface, drill and tap the side panels so that I could bolt them together prior to taking the cap to the chimney to attach to the crown. 2) The brackets on this cap are fixed on the outside of the cap, and are not adjustable. They are not on a hinge like other caps so that they can be screwed in on the inside or the outside of the cap. I had to bend the hinges to the inside so that the cap could be installed on our chimney. Granted, I ordered a cap that was nearly the exact size of our chimney, and had I gone with a smaller size, I wouldn’t have had this problem. There just wasn’t another size cap that was close to what we needed. Overall, very happy with the product other than having to do a bit of extra work to get it to fit, it is definitely the budget friendly option. It is sturdy metal, and should last a long time.
