Julie: I've purchased a few of these boxes in the past, but don't have one to measure precisely at the moment. Generally, boxes are sized by interior dimensions so that you can know how large of an item will fit inside. For heavy-walled boxes like these, the exterior measurements will be 3/8-in or more than the stated box size. And, of course, shippers round up to the nearest inch. However, that seems like an incredible up-charge for the slight different in size. Given that you have dimensions and weight for the box, use the ups.com shipping estimate tool to see if you were grossly overcharged. If so, open a claim with UPS and see if they will issue a partial refund. Respectfully, Ray

Weight capacity

The weight capacity varies with the quality and strength of tape used in assembly. Using the fibrous strapping tape I filled ours to the point where we could not lift it but only move it with a hand truck. I bought a second one to make it more manageable. If you're only moving wardrobe items and tape it well you will fill it before you reach a weight capacity,

Can the metal hanging bars be purchased alone? I already have the boxes just need the bar.

Good Morning, I would recommend taking the box back to your local Home Depot and exchanging it for another one that has a bar. We do not sell the bars separately. The bar should come banded to the box, but sometimes in transit and time in stores the bar comes off the actual box leaving the two separated. Sorry for the inconvenience and if you have any more questions please let us know.

I am so sorry I don't know. Check online, pay for them if they have them and pick them up at customer service. It's very quick and you don't pay for shipping.

Are hanging bars available without the box? One of mine has come up missing even though the box is in great shape.

Box Collapse
For as expensive as this product was. It was of terrible quality. The box began falling apart during the move and completed collapsed before it was even unpacked.

Hi, we apologize again for this product not meeting your expectations. We have come up with an alternative wardrobe box to combat this issue and would be more than happy to send you one as a resolution.

This box says "heavy duty" but the construction of the box that allows you to place items inside makes for a weak box- nothing heavy duty about it. There should be a weight limit posted for this product as well. My two feet of closet space and someone else's are different and therefore providing closet space requirements isnt adequate. Lastly, the weight on the bar plus clothes which is held up by "heavy duty" cardboard isnt strong enough! This box is for light clothing at best and local shipping only as you cant be responsible for how a shipping provider would handle the box. Images below are for a move from NY to Cali with FedEx.

In comparing prices for boxes Home Depot’s boxes were a much better price and still a heavy duty quality cardboard. We still spent hundreds on boxing up our large home and glad Home Depot offered these boxes way less than storage facilities.

Perfect size box for packing tall lamps, and at the same time I secure them with comforters, decorative pillows and delicate Items. Hanging clothes go on suitcases or you can lay a big flat sheet on bed and in the middle you pile your clothes with hangers . Then you wrapped sheet around and secure it with either large safety pins or a couple of bungy cords. it works! your clothes will not wrinckle and they'll be ready to just quicly hang in your new closet. I highly do recomend the 24x24x36 from Home Depot for multiple packing purpose. Home Depot offers very friendly and knowlegeble costomer service and customer satisfaction.

I purchased 4 of these wardrobes for my move. I put it together and filled it with light hanging clothes. It was then carried downstairs to be put on moving truck. Unfortunately, as it was lifted to put on the truck, it fell apart!. The box caved in and the bar broke the corrugate - apparently, the box is not sturdy enough for its purpose. I had filled 3 wardrobe boxes which all broke and found their way into the garbage. I was able to return one. They were a waste of money and very disappointing.

The wardrobe box leaves a 1" gap on top and bottom. Very poor design!
I love the Heavy Duty Home Depot moving boxes. They are the best on the market, and I have just purchased over 100 of them for my move. But, the Home Depot Wardrobe Box is a surprisingly poor design that leaves a large 1" gap on both the top and bottom seams that has to be sealed with tape. I used 1 of these reluctantly because of a timing issue, but the others are being returned.

Perfect Temp Storage
These boxes are a breeze to put together, and are holding my clothes during a remodel project. I'm able to have them available without the frustration of digging through folded up clothes. What an inexpensive and useful alternative.

Needs a Little Support
Easy to assemble, integrated carry handles, accessible side drop lets you access clothes without opening up the whole box. I plan to use to keep clothes clean and accessible while in storage for a time. To Make this box sturdy and able to hold All the clothes, and weight you can hang in it, I added two, 34" support posts on the sides, and 2 floor plates, glued over the interlocked bottom flaps, to support the side posts. Heavy weights help with this. One 6', 1"x2" board, cut into two, 34" pieces. Easy Peezy. Then two thin plates glued to the bottom for support there. 4 wood screws and small washers down each side to hold posts in place. Don't over tighten. These posts can be glued also if desired. Drill One hole through the metal from the outside, on each side, for a screw eye to attach a bungee to hold lid closed. One 6' 1"x2" white MDF board, $2.67... Two 20GA, Galv steel tie plates, $.88 each. 1 Bag screws, $1.18. I had the screw eyes, washers, and goop glue. Total Modification costs, $5.61 plus tax, plus a little time. You actually could do this with just 2 side posts, some glue, 2 screws, some twine, and it would work too.. Now, cardboard is still cardboard, but now the weight of the clothes puts NO stress whatsoever on the sides of box. at all.
