About This Product

The StudBuddy is The World's Simplest Stud Finder. The StudBuddy stud finder hangs on the wall hands free for visual reference when hanging shelves, cabinets, paintings, mirrors, hooks, flat screen televisions and other heavy objects. The simple to use stud finder works with all drywall applications by locating nails and screws in wood and metal studs. No batteries, electronic or moving parts. Having spent the last 40-years as a framer, carpenter, builder, designer and general contractor, The StudBuddy creator felt there must be a simpler and more accurate way of locating framing studs. Many people get frustrated with using electronic stud finders, the tapping method or drilling multiple holes to locate studs which can be costly to repair and repaint. Several-years ago, while playing with strong neodymium magnets, The StudBuddy inventor suddenly saw the ease of locating drywall nails and screws and therefore, stud location.

      Answer This Question

A:  I guess you could, but this is designed to actually glide on the wall without leaving any marks that you would need to touch up.

A:  You certainly could. By the time you imbed the magnets you bought into a handle you've wasted more time thanis worth it IMHO. My question to you: why wouldn't you just do your project instead of wasting the time of everyone who ever bought this.

Easy to use and more reliable than more expensive electronic stud finders.
Easy to use and more reliable than more expensive electronic stud finders. This little tool can easily locate a stud simply by swiping it back and forth across the face of a wall. You can feel it's magnetic pull when it finds a stud, and best of all, it "sticks" to the wall so you don't have to mark the wall with a pencil. It's perfect for hanging pictures as I know exactly where the stud is to position it in the center of the picture and distribute the weight. I have several surfaces on the inside walls of my home. The stud finder works extremely well on the normal drywall (plaster) walls, and very well over wallpaper as well. It had a little difficulty finding studs through the thicker plaster stucco, and isn't able to find studs through tile. It doesn't require batteries and there are no electronics or wiring to suddenly fail. This little guy does a great job!

WOW! I was pleasantly surprised how great this little gem worked. It was nestled among the other stud finders costing upwards of $100. But it works exactly as advertised. The powerful magnet in it will find the nails in your wall and "stick" to them as you slowly move it around the wall seams or studs. After you find the first nail/screw/stud it's fairly predictable to find others vertically on the same stud and even horizontally across nearby studs. All DIY'ers need one of these, especially for the low cost.

            Piece of junk
Don't buy this I ruined a wall using it. I spent a lot of time using this to find a stud in the wall, it did not find any, so i prepared to use mounting clasps for a non stud drywall hole. As soon as i drilled i hit a a stud which this piece of junk never found. Now i have A HUGE HOLE IN THE WALL THAT I HAVE TO PATCH AND PAINT! the problem is that all it is is a simple magnet, and it finds the nails in the stud BUT what if the nails are farther back, or not there, then you end up with the mess that i have. I wish the maker would refund my costs for repairing the wall. I am going to smash it with my hammer and throw it in the garbage.

              Best way to find studs!!!
I think this is the best stud finder out there. I used electronic stud finders in the past and they were always inaccurate and I tried using many different kinds, but all performed very poorly. This resulted in having many holes in my wall which I had to patch and paint over. This stud finder uses a magenet that finds drywall screws and sticks to it on the wall. Guranteed to find a stud every time!! I would recommend covering the bottom with a pad of some sort or felt to protect your walls from getting scratched!!

                Beats electronic stud finders!!
I have been using a 100 lbs magnet to locate studs but this stud finder works awesome!! I was never a fan of electronic stud finders as they were always unreliable but magnets work great because they locate the drywall screws that attach the drywall to the studs. I would recommen gluing on some felt to the bottom of this so that it does not make marks on your wall
