Q:Can these be used to refinish a cement garage floor? Nothing major being done other than giving the floor a new level, flat surface.

A:  Your best source of information would be from the manufacturer. I used these with self leveler in my kitchen. They were easy to use, did the job and we’re easy to remove. My application was only 1/4” to 1/2” though. There were only twelve in the box. It could get expensive for your job. I would assume for a large space such as a garage there would be a roll product (grey) that is specifically designed for large concrete applications such as a garage. I had a patio replaced years ago and the contractor used a grey foam barrier for the wall where it met my house. I hope this helps.

A:  You leave them, very stiff foam. I’ve used them in 2 different bathrooms and left them under tile with no problems

Worked as advertised. I screwed a board to the floor in door opening and then used the foam to the inside of it. Your toilet flange and valve as well as the heater vents can be done using cardboard and caulk.

Thermostrips are very effective and quick/easy to install
Very nice product. These strips make it really quick and easy to create a perimeter to contain poured self leveler. Used them to create a boundary in the bathroom and as a barrier around the toilet floor drain. One wall that contained the shower door had a small offset between the wall and shower entry and these strips easily bent to accommodate it. The sticky backing keeps the strips down where you want, but also allows them be pried up without loosing the backing in case they need to be shifted elsewhere. A couple quick swipes of a utility knife blade is all it takes to trim these to size.

        Leaves Adhesive Behind
The edge strips worked well for the self leveler but all, and I mean all, the adhesive was left behind. It took me hours to get the adhesive off the concrete using paint brush cleaner. The next time I used the strips I put blue painters tape down first and THEN put the strips on the tape...that worked great. They should warn you before using these, but I would use these again now that I know the secret!

            Leaves adhesive residue
The edge strips worked well for the self leveler and against painted walls but not against acrylic tub and shower pans. All the adhesive was left on the acrylic and is extremely difficult to remove. I tried a heat gun, wd40, acidtone, goo gone and alcohol with absolutly no luck. The only thing that worked was automotive break cleaner but its not my first choice against acrylic surfaces. It took 8 hours to remove all the adhesive!
