You will need Toro Cover Model # 490-7462. You can view it online at https://www.homedepot.com/p/Toro-20-in-to-22-in-Walk-Behind-Mower-Cover-490-7462/202807398. Thank you.

Does this mower leave significant wheel lines?

Asked by ChrisFromCleveland August 26, 2020

Answers

Honestly, I don't understand what you mean by wheel lines, mine has small wheels and I really don't see any wheel lines, just overlap lines which is normal. I don't think having bigger wheels makes a difference either.

What is the maximum Horse Power of this mower?

Asked by Saulo July 23, 2020
1
Answer

With engines in walk-behind lawn mowers, we use gross torque ratings to measure the engine’s power rather than horsepower. Gross Torque is the immediate twisting force required to turn a blade at a given moment. Thus, torque is the way to measure the rotational force a machine can produce which is exactly what a walk behind mower does as it cuts grass. The gross torque for this mower is 7.25 ft.-lb.

Starts with ease and cuts great! Also like the letters near the levers to adjust the deck height! For the money spent it should have had a wider blade.

I purchased this mower to replace a 17 year-old Toro Personal Pace mower that broke (I think it was the drive shaft) - and I couldn't be happier! Originally I tried the Toro FWD High Wheel because of the price...That was a mistake. After half a lawn I returned it for this one, and I don't regret the additional $120 spent. The Personal Pace SmartStow runs and maneuvers like it knows what I want it to do - it practically drives itself! I'm not sure how people don't like the personal pace system, but it's SO much easier than the bar that you need to pull up from under the handle. I know that the Honda has a thumbs-operated system that's good, but I really like the PP system. I can walk as slowly as I want or jog to keep up with it. This thing turns with ease, and seems to cut well. It's late in the season, so we'll see how it handles next year. The aluminum deck is sharp-looking and lightweight. Hopefully it'll stand up to many summers. And the added bonus here is the SmartStow feature. What a God-send! I have limited space in my garage, so when I swap out the lawnmower for the snowblower, I'll have more space than before. Don't hesitate to spend the extra cash for this mower - I'll return to review this next year, but so far, so good!

Only had this unit for 3 weeks, used it 5 times and seems to be ok as far as cutting but it struggles a bit on 6 inch tall grass growth set on "C" which is about the middle of selection cut sizes. Moves nicely with your walking speed. It starts with a pull or two ok. The fold up feature is sweet but it's heavy to move around and difficult to grab, wish the design would have a carry handle of some sort. Now, as far as the locking plastic knobs, I don't expect them to last long, seems weak and brittle. There's a rubber flap on the rear that glides over the grass, that flap is already tearing up after a few times of use, so I had to remove it. Cheap weak rubber, haven't decided whether I will just return the unit or call Toro to have them send me another rubber flap. The $500 price tag is high for the quality and features you get in my opinion.

My craftsman mower stopped working this past weekend and I needed a new mower. I had my eyes on the new Toro super Recycler 2020 edition for a few months now. This is my first Toro and what I now consider my first real lawn mower. The cut quality is excellent! I love the stow and go feature and the suspension in the handles. Overall great lawnmower. I saw many reviews complaining about sputtering and issues with this mowing wanting to stall. So far after one cut I had no issues.

I've cut with it 10 times now and I'm really happy with it so far. The personal pace is awesome, I like to enjoy the mow so this let's me walk at a nice pace, but I also have a slope in my yard and it let's me power up that with no problem. The cut is super nice and, like it's name says, it mulches really well even with tall slightly wet grass. I haven't had any stuttering like other people have said and that's with one of my mows going from 8" to 4.25". The SmartStow makes it super easy to maintain the blades and clean under the deck without worrying about what happens when tipping it over. Also, with the cast aluminum body and the wheels, it makes it feel like a tank. Not too heavy, but super stable and well built.

This is my 4th Toro as a home owner over the years, and honestly, I expected more from this reputable brand. I'm on my second 21386, returned the first one within 2 weeks of purchase. On the first one, the rear wheels would tighten up (not lock up, but close) when I pulled it backwards, making it hard to maneuver and make a turn. The engine would also stutter, like the fuel is cutting out when going over slightly bumpy terrain or up and down small inclines. My second 21386 still does this even with a full tank, and it's annoying (and embarrassing). That's a Briggs & Stratton issue. Overall, it makes me rethink my Consumer Reports subscription.

Expensive Toro with issues Purchased this mower to replace a 18yr old hand me down Toro Recycler which I personally used for the last 11yrs. Assembly was easy. Unbox, remove the plastic covering, add oil and gas and start. The initial problem showed itself right away which was the engine was sputtering intermittently. Checked the engine manual to make sure i didn't miss anything and also turned to online information. The resources i found including a couple of YouTube video's mentioned that some of these models did not have their spark plug wire fully connected from the factory, sure enough mine was one of them. This resolved the sputtering. The major issue and the reason I ended up returning it. The engine bogs down and almost dies on mildly uneven terrain. My currently theory is when the front wheels bounce,it's forcing the Personal Pace handle to actuate rapidly engaging and disengaging the drive quickly and almost stalls the engine, perhaps engine is under powered. Some of the video remarks I have seen seem to think it's related to B&S carb and engine design issues. I don't know, but this was a deal breaker for me regardless. Before making the decision to return the mower. I thought since the spark plug wire connector wasn't connected properly at the factory I would check the gap. Low and behold the gap was incorrect, it was set to .020 in. and it should have been set to .030 in. for the 163cc engine (per pg. 10 B&S manual). Additional evidence of the lack of quality assurance. In summary, you shouldn't have to troubleshoot a brand new mower for running issues. The lack of QA has made me think twice about Toro for now and will probably look at the Honda line. Pros: -Aluminum deck -Great Mulcher -SmartStow Cons: -Engine bogs in mildly uneven terrain -Personal Pace needs refinement -Spark plug wire was not connected to the plug itself from the factory -Spark plug gap not properly set -Spark plug was fouled, way more than it should have been for >2 hours of use I put on it -The Toro user manual is horrible, they really did look for the cheapest method putting something together with bad drawings and almost no explanations. -Not made in America (Mine came from Mexico) I will note the B&S engine manual is much better
