Questions & Answers

How prevent clumps of grass?

Asked by NoClumps August 28, 2020

I spray the bottom of mine with cooking spray before mowing. I don’t know if that will help but you may want to give it a shot? Might help the deck from loading up

How does the variable speed work. Manual or electronic.?

Asked by Arch August 13, 2020

It is manual via a cable which can be adjusted but should fit anyone’s walking pace.

Is this model getting replaced? out of stock in my area, any ideas when i will be available again?

Asked by Jeff August 11, 2020

I had to buy mine online and they delivered it on time as promised.

Does it have a Honda motor

Asked by DG August 2, 2020

The model I bought does not, Briggs & Stratton.

I did a test start (added bottle of included oil and gas) and got a burning smell. It is brand new. Is this normal?

Asked by Teresa July 27, 2020

I think I remember a bit of smell the first time I used it. As long as you put the correct amount of oil in and didn't spill a little bit on the engine. It will clear up quickly.

In .25 gallon, how long/distance it can run?

Asked by Aa July 4, 2020

That is a tough question to answer. It will depend on how long and how thick the grass is. Do you have to mow any slopes? Do you walk fast or slow? Using my mower sometimes I would mow the lawn about 1.5 times on a tank and sometimes I barely finished one mowing. I won't bother providing my lawn size because there are too many variables.

How tall is it when it is folded up to store?

Asked by Roberto June 23, 2020

About 3 feet or so. it's the same length ad back of back wheel to front of front wheel. It is very secure when folded and turned vertically - I was afraid it might be a little shaky but it is not..

What is the top speed of this thing? My current self propelled is too slow.

Asked by pi3 June 21, 2020

As fast as you walk that's why its called a personal pace.

When stowing in the upright position, what is the height, length, width? I am trying to figure ou...

Asked by JP June 19, 2020

Well maybe 3 feet unless you take the screws out of the handle 2 and a half feet look at the box it is smaller than the box.

My Briggs & Stratton engine on this mower cuts out and puffs out a little black smoke when mowing...

Asked by Joe June 12, 2020

I just use regular gas from Sunoco never saw black smoke come out of it.

I've waited over 3+ years but can now write a stellar review. Never had an issue with mine. During the season, my grass grows so quickly, I find myself cutting every 5th and even a 4th day at times. It has started on the first pull 99.9% of the time and never more than a second pull is needed, only when coming out after the winter season of non use. I set the blades at 3 inches and it's all good. Saw some complaints the bag gets only half full but I've had that issue with any brand I have purchased during my life. Just kick under the bag as you are walking to check how full it's getting and that will also help move the grass around. When you kick and it doesn't give as much, you probably have a 2/3's filled bag, so go dump it. A full bag only adds stress to ANY lawnmower. Toro's have been my mainstay over the last 25 years and I really love the new Smartstow feature. Saves lots of room in the garage.

A mower that makes grass cutting effortless
This mower is such a fantastic tool for me to cut the grass. The personal pace is such an effortless way to just walk behind the mower with minimal pushing. I have had other mowers with FWD systems but they still require effort to push and maneuver up an incline for example. Toro has made this personal pace system really user friendly and its great for me and my yard. The recycle and mulch feature works well to cut the grass down and leave the clippings on your yard. The bagging system can be attached and works well to catch the clippings for disposal. Also I like to use the discharge chute to have the grass come out on the right side on days when I may have let the grass get too long and this allows it to get distributed out from under the blades. Good mower and worth the investment. I had my previous one for 10 years and sold it when i moved out of state. I bought a new one and hope it gives me another 10 years of usage. This new mower has the SmartStow and for me its a lifesaver for my current garage situation. Folds right up and stands in the desired spot of your choice. Small footprint is perfect for limited space areas like mine.

Reliable. Functional. Easy to use. Fun to store.

I like the machine. It is easy to operate. Rear wheel drive, with large wheels for hill terrain. Storage is a key feature too! Starts on first pull. Even after sitting in storage all winter. Note: Small issue with hill terrain. Ensure you have a full take of fuel. When mowing a hillside, going side-to-side, if you hit a bump or two, the mower tends to go into a stall like mode. (Might be a safety feature.) I found that operating the machine with a full tank of fuel eliminates the issue somewhat. When storing the mower, pay attention to fuel fill max line for upright (ez-storage), or your fuel will spill out.

This is my second lawn mower I purchased after 15 years. My old Craftsman push mower that I purchased back in 2005 is still going strong. But because the slight incline of my front yard is starting to be a challenge for me. I decided it is time to purchase a self propelled mower. After many reviews and comparisons .. decided to purchase a Toro brand. Great lawn mower. Started right away at first pull, no priming needed, which makes it even better. Love the personal pace variable speed self propelled .. it works great. I wish I bought a self propelled years ago ... The only gripe I have is the the grass clippings spilling out of the top part of the grass catcher. It does seem to sit and seal correctly.

Great product. I wanted something rear or 4 wheel drive and loads of power because I have a steep sloped back yard (probably 25% and worse in a few areas). There doesn't seem to be a good uniform way to tell which mowers fit the bill so I went with whatever had the most power there at the store. 7.25 ft lbs with the Briggs & Stratton engine. Much to my delight this mower is more than plenty and has made mowing my yard a breeze. Very very pleased with his purchase so far. In occasion the mower has stumbled on itself like it was going to die but never has. Right now I'm chaulking it up to early engine break in.

I am the guy between one level and the next. I live on a hill four terraces leading down 80' ? elevation. The drop downs are the only thing which is a bit of manipulation with this mower. sometimes if it gets a little near the tilt shutdown even though you are safe it sputters. I will say it has not shutdown on me . I hope the quality is such that it will hold the hill without puking its drive gears out for the duration. I love the mower so far. My prior mower made four years and lost the drive so I fixed it once and saw some kind of plastic bushings being used which is why it failed. I have not been inside this one and will not until it becomes necessary but Hoping this is the one tough built mower I have searched out. The speed selection based on the leaning personal sliding handle is actually a dream for the average mowing person. I am still wondering if it is the mower that is built to be handled by the meekest of people but built for the hills in the Tennessee Valley. If so I will be buying another if this one lasts three years.. it seems really light . I will say I am being protective and not pushing anything into the fail zone. Some of my drop downs are actually 80 to 90 degrees. I don't try and mow in too close in those spots. The personal pace is fine with me and it performed well. There is something as well since I am telling all. the gas tank on this mower uses what appears to be straight forward flooding technology . if you fill the tank too high it floods the air filter with gas through a spout hooked to the air filter. so unless you want to be a fire hazard don't overfill . I still like the mower and twice now it has mowed my little bit of heaven! the search was always as wide as I could afford yet light for hillside work and rear wheel drive hopefully of the rugged kind.
