Q:Is there a way to fasten one of the collectors to keep wildlife out. Such as raccons
      by|Nov 16, 2022
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  It's not clear what you mean by "collectors." We can tell you that the lids on Toter two-wheel (trash can) carts provide a tight seal that resists wind, rain, and penetration by small animals—yet can be opened easily when emptied by automated garbage trucks. It's important to make sure the lid is closed properly to deny animals an easy edge to grab onto with their teeth. In situations where a trash cart is frequently exposed to animals such as raccoons, we recommend considering a Toter Bear Tough cart, which has a locking latch and steel-reinforced rim and comes in capacities of 64 and 96 gallons.

Re: toter response 1/20/2023 from Robert 1/18/2023
No Sir, regardless of what you believe is plausible, I meant exactly what I said. I bought it, had it delivered to my home, was picked up two times in the week and a half I owned it by the same carrier that has picked up my one size smaller toter for over 5 years. The wheel came off wheeling it up the drive way. The inside of the wheel is cracked and can't just be popped back in. The new design is cheap. I had to purchase an entire replacement wheel kit with caps for a brand new trash can.

Your first review was not clear about the wheel problem, and stated that wheels are "not covered" under our warranty. That is not true. Wheels ARE covered under our warranty. Our Terms of Sales page is: https://www.toter.com/terms-sale. There are specific instructions for warranty issues in the menu when you call the Toter customer service number we provided in our initial response, at (800) 424-0422. The warranty page on Toter.com for retail purchases is https://www.toter.com/resources/warranties/retail-purchases-warranty. Toter is the premium brand of two-wheel trash carts. They're the most durable on the market, with an average service life of 15 to 20 years. They carry a 10-year warranty and enjoy the lowest claim rate in the industry. They're the choice of waste haulers nationwide and loved by consumers for their appearance, mobility and general ease of use, as well as their durability. ToterAnswers
          Offset lid
The product itself seems fairly sturdy & tough. I think it’ll last some wear & tear. I am very disappointed that the lid does not close properly, it’s offset a bit, and I think that may lead to a problem with critters getting into my trash, which is why I needed this new trash bin to begin with. If I close on one side the other side pops up. I had it delivered by Home Depot and it won’t fit in my car to return for a better fitting one.

Thanks for choosing Toter. The lids on Toter two-wheel (trash can) carts provide a tight enough seal to resist wind, rain, and penetration by small animals—yet open easily to be emptied by automated garbage trucks. Perhaps something happened to your lid before you received it. Please let Toter customer service know about this issue by calling (800) 424-0422 and select option '2' for retail customers. Rendered unusable in less than three weeks
If you plan to store bird seed in it, not a good idea. Critters chewed through the lid and were able to get in the trashcan. We purposely bought this at such a high price to prevent this from happening because the lid and sides seemed so much sturdier than most. If a squirrel can chew through it, guess it’s not that sturdy.

            Response from ToterToughAug 26, 2022
We're sorry that squirrels chewed your lid. A search for "squirrels" or "small animals" through the thousands of reviews on this site for Toter two-wheel trash carts will show that consumers are generally happy with how well our carts resist penetration by small animals, although they sometimes do get penetrated through the lid (not the cart body). It's helpful to make sure the lid is fully, securely closed, so that animals don't have an easy edge to grab onto with their teeth. That said, you're probably right that storing bird seed in the cart and leaving it outside it not a good application for the cart. In situations where a cart must be frequently, highly exposed to small animals, we recommend considering a Toter Bear Tough cart, but they're only offered in capacities of 64 and 96 gallons. We also offer lid replacement kits for all our two-wheel carts. If you'd like to speak with Toter customer service about this matter, please call (800) 424-0422 and select option '2' for retail customers. Thank you. ToterAnswers

It's big enough for our family. Good strong lid, garbage truck friendly. Now lets see how long it lasts!

                Quality has gone down hill
I have 2 of these. One I bought around 2014, the other just recently. You can really see the difference in how the quality has taken a nose dive. The plastic is thinner, the lid doesn't sit right, and the seams were not cleaned up, leaving rough spots on the handle. No care was given to the construction of this. It's a shame to watch decent products get made cheaper as companies cut every corner possible to maximize profits at the expense of customer satisfaction. Shame, Toter :(

                Response from ToterToughFeb 18, 2022
The quality has not changed since 2014. The materials and manufacturing process are the same. Built for extreme use, Toter two-wheel (trash can) carts are the most heavy duty on the market, often providing a service life of 15 to 20 years. They carry a 10-year warranty and enjoy the lowest claim rate in the industry. Sometimes people mistake the thinness and flexibility of our carts for weakness, when the opposite is true. Thanks to a manufacturing process Toter pioneered called "Advanced Rotational Molding," our cart bodies are made as "one" piece, with no separate bottom and side walls, i.e., no seams, and consistent wall thickness. This allows the use of "medium" density polyethylene (MDPE), which is highly impact resistant and usually lasts twice as long as injection-molded carts, which are made with "high" density polyethylene (HDPE) that is more rigid, brittle, and offers poor impact resistance. Toter cart lids are designed to fit snugly so they stay on and don't come off under stress, yet are easily opened by people and the lifters of garbage trucks. They are not easily blown open or penetrated by small animals. Toter trash carts have been the choice of national waste haulers for decades, and are loved by consumers for their appearance, mobility and general ease of use, as well as their durability. Disgusting
This is how my trash cans were delivered by Home Depot to my driveway. Home Depot should be ashamed. Absolutely disgusting. Never buying from there again.
